You can do Solo mode by yourself, but it is much better in Multiplayer mode. Solo mode is kind of weak with no rewards. Much better with a friend.
If you can get a mic stand you could potentially do multiplayer 2 man, instrument of choice + singing. I know a few people who have done that.
