None of them. It's a completely different game storywise. But, MGS1 and MGS2 has some similarities in the way they describe the main bosses.

Thanks. That's the answer I was hoping for. I liked MGS2 best, and I was hoping MGS1 was similar.

Ummm... They're all pretty different. I guess MGS2 would be closest, but only because it shares the most similarities. Then again, MGS4 actually shares the same setting at one point. Why are you asking this? Is there a relevance to the question? Maybe if I knew why you needed to know I could go into better detail with you.

The reason I asked is because I liked MGS2. I didn't like MGS3 or MGS4. I am planning to get MGS1, but only if the gameplay is similar to MGS2.

It's very similar. When they started doing outdoor scenes and they killed the radar, the series took a nose-dive for me.

Oh, ok. Well, yes, MGS2's gameplay is definately the closest to MGS1. Its almost the same, but there are a few moves you can't do. MGS1 is (IMO) the best in the series and a definate must-play. If you get the opportunity to play it, please do.

There were outdoor scenes in every game.... I too liked the radar, but once they implemented the rotating camera the radar wasn't really necessary anymore. You can use the camera to look around corners and stuff. It still would have been nice if they included the radar on at least the easier difficulties. Even in MGS2 they remove it on everything past "NORMAL".

In gameplay you might find it hard to play MGS1 for example in MGS1 there are things you can't do that is in MGS2 like coming behind an enemy and make him freeze, no lockers to hide in, you can't aim in First Person View you can only look and when pressing against the wall you can't make your character look from behind the wall, the camera will adjust to give you a good view instead

Story wise MGS1 story is simple and you won't find it hard to understand.

IN terms of gameplay or story? MGS2 is the closest in terms of Gameplay, although they are all very similar. In terms of story and what is going on, they are all very very different and yet connected.

Well it depends on if you mean gameplay. MGS 1 for the playstation you cant do rolls or shoot in first person and the graphics arent as good as MGS2. But for the gamecube version The Twin Snakes you can do all the same moves from MGS2 and with MGS 2 graphics.

GAMESHARQ

MGS1 is a prequel to MGS2. As far as gameplay goes, MGS2 is much much advanced. Otherwise, it's the closest in terms of story.

Definitley MGS2, since as Ocelot said it was a "Recration of the Shadow Moses incident"

However in terms of gameplay MGS2 improves on everything MGS1 had done.

And MGS2 story might get you a bit confused. To understand it you've got to beat it 2-3 times.

MGS2 is naturally the closest. It is basically the same with a couple of new features.

The thing is, MGS2 is deliberately very similar to MGS1. The incident on the oil-platform in MGS2 is basically just a recreation of the events of Shadow Moses orchestrated by the patriots.

For me it's a toss up between 3 and TS. 4 was good, but hardly the best.

storywise, it had a very emotional like aspect, somewhere in between MGS3 and 4. Gameplaywise its basically MGS2 with FPS and other small details.
