So I'm in a dilemma now about which PS3 to get, the 40 or 80 GB. It comes down to whether I like Motorstorm (I'm not sure about that) and whwther 40GB is enough for the long term.

So my question is with your typical usage of the PS3, how much space you use? do you think 40GB is enough for typical usage for a long time?

Thanks,

I got the original 60gb on launch date and I already filled it completely long time ago. I would say go with the 80gb. 40gbs is really small considering the technology we are using these days..digital everything.

i'm currently using about half of my sixty gigs. you have to keep some things in mind.

1. you download demos

2 you download trailers

3. you download game updates

4. you install portions of games onto the hard drive to make them run smother.

all this takes up space on the hard drive, of course, and lest we not forget storage of music and pics, if thats what you want. i'm actually a bit surprised at how much space i've taken up without even trying.

unless you are going to need backwards compatibility go with the 40 gig, unless you have extra cash laying around i guess. I dont think either will be big enough for the future, more than likely if you use your ps3 to the fullest extent your going to need to buy an bigger drive sooner or later. And you can get them pretty cheap, then your looking at a faster drive that has like 250 gb, that will be enough to last in the future.

I have a 60 gb and i have 3 games installed and a bunch of demo's and short clip videos and i only have like 18 gb left, so im gonna upgrade soon

You could always change the hard disk.

Everyting everyone said is true, but remember, you can delete all that stuff like demos, etc after you are done.  Launch Day 60 buyer, and I have 35 GB left.

Personally I think the 40 gig PS3 is the worst deal on the system because of the fact it is just a stripped down PS3. If you can find a 60 gig version there the best deal of all the SKU's offered. If you can't find a 60 then the 80 would be the next best buy.

If you don't need wifi and a few other features and you can find one, a 20 gig would be ok.

Regardless of which one you get it is very easy to change the HDD without worrying about voiding the warranty. Any SATA HDD will fit (just keep the drive speed at 5400). I see that now there is a 250 GB HDD that can fit into the PS3 and in the future the size of the HDD could reach half a TB or more.

Thanks all for the useful inputs, I didn't consider the HD upgrade until now...I'll google it to see how easy it is.

Thanks again.
