Sony's 8MB Memory Card is for the PS2 console. It's only lower because games on the PS2 cache a significant lower amount over those of the PS3. Through an adaptor, you can save and transfer game saves from a PS2 to a PS3 - also you might also find other uses for the 2 GB SD card (such as for cameras, computers etc.)

I can buy a 120gig 2.5" hdd for 69.99.. why is Xbox 360's 120gig hdd $179.99? Cause the products are for a niche market that has no competition. They can charge whatever they want, and people will pay for it becuase its the only way they can get it. Other memory cards have competition, which drives prices down. The capacity of the Memory Card is kind of irrelevant to the price, becuase the PS2 will never need 2gigs of memory and the memory card has no other practical uses. I understand your logic, and yes that is a rediculous price to pay for 8megs.. but its a simple matter of supply and demand.
