I would like to know if someone went through the process of backing up the PS3 HardDrive content before installing YellowDog Linux. I do have around 25 Gig of movies / pictures / songs / games and save games on my PS3 HD and I was wondering if the BackUp process works in a way that after I install YDLinux I can get all this stuff back into my PS3.
Any comment / suggestion / instructions are more then welcome. Thanks for your time.
Yes I did a backup of the hard drive, on to my usb external drive and putting them back on was no problem you just select them and press triangle and copy them back to where they came from.

why when i plug my USB external drive in it wont show up?
i have backed it up using my psp 4gb memory stick before installing gentoo linux.make sure the external hard drive or memory stick is formatted as FAT32 or FAT. ps3 won't recognize NTFS.
Mine was just the same you have to re-format the drive to fat32 if the drive was formated with xp chances are its not fat32 and is Ntfs and the ps3 doe`s not recognise drives formetted in NTFS to see what your drive is right click on my computer and then manage in the box on the left hand side select disk management and look at the format is it fat32 or NTFS?
