Righto you are, a bad move for Sony I think, but it did help in lowering the cost of the PS3. The reason it cant is Sony removed the emotion engine, a vital component in playing ps2 games. Howerver what boggles me is the fact that although the 80gb does not have the motion engine in it, it does have a emulator, much like the 360, that allows you to play most ps2 games. So if the 80gb has it, why not the 40gb...?

I think the 80s still have some transistors or something that were part of the ps2 hardware. So it was actually still part hardware emulation. The 40s lack the ee and the transistors so it would be full software if they chose to but they opted out.

Your friend should have done some research first, before he bought the 40GB version.

Use PS2 to PS2 games, that's what many 40GB owners are using.
