Questions from the newest PS3 owner

Hey, when I heard they were discontinuing the B/C compatible 80GB PS3 bundled with MGS4 it made me panic enough to get off my duff and search for one in a store (I luckily found one). But now I have a few questions about my new console..

1) Do any of the updates have negative effects, or if you constantly update you system you should be fine? (Apparently some updates suck and cause problems [for b/c etc.] and difficult to get rid of?)

2) Has any one had any serious technical issues/warnings they'd like to share with me?

3) What are these "trophies":P (achievements you get in games and can show them off online?)

Any help is appreciated.. and I look forward to being apart of the Sony family again (my sister stole my PS2 and took it to Alaska:|)

i think you're mistaken on the B/C being taken off the 80gb Ps3 MGS4 bundle, B/C will remain on that bundle cuz its bringing ps3 sales up a lot

i believe you're thinking of the Backward Compatible-less 80gb ps3 that will be introduced this fall, it will replace the 40gb ps3 which has no B/C

Updates are crucial to your system, you have to update it to sign into the PSN and the updates will not effect B/C in a negative way, they actually help it

trophies are like achievements but don't worry about that right now b/c only a limited number of games have them

1) There aren't any negative effects. When updates are available they can be added without problems. I personally have not had any problems wh=ith any updates.

2) NO tech issues, just keep you disc clean and smudge free, do not play your system over 3 hrs. 4 hr max. Let it cool for for 6 - 8 hrs, if you do. You can shut it off via the control pad , but also use the switch, to turn the system completlely off. I heard this may eliminate some unforseen problems with the Blue-ray

3) the games must come with a function that supports trophies, many games are coming out with patches to keep up with the technology

Tell your sister thats ok, you rigged your Ps3 with bouncing betty's and she better not leave Alaska, LOL Welcome to the SONY family, hope you have good fun and lots of it.
