I was going to give Sony a call back tomorrow to ask these questions but I figured I could ask you guys on the behalf of my girlfriend.

Well, her PS3 has been acting slightly weird for the past two months or so from when she traded her 360 in for a used 60GB PS3 at Gamestop. For the past five weeks or so it had been buggy with loading certain games. Today it finally took even a lower drop to stop playing her Blu-ray movies, DVDs, and some Playstation 2 games. Not entirely stop playing but when it takes several tries of restarting her console and taking out the disc, I'd say it's close to biting the dust entirely. After dealing with the standard troubleshooting with a Sony rep and paying for a Out of Warranty exchange, her order is setup to get a box her in three days or so she can send it off for a new/refurbished 60GB.

I'm sure the instructions that will be coming (Along with the instructions they said they were going toe-mail mein the next 24 hours)will tell me but what exactly will she have to send back? The console, obviously but with the HDD unit, AV cables, and power cord? If anyone has had to send their PS3 back to Sony, could you just run me through your story briefly? Thanks again, I just like to be prepared. Like a Boy Scout, cutting out the whole wildnerness andpedophiliac scout leaders part.

Also, to worried soon be PS3 owners of console issues from other platforms: Her PS3 seems like it was a launch model, it was used, and not exactly properly cared for from it's previous owner until it ended up in the hands of my girlfriend(to where she treated like it was God's invention for the wheels of mankind to run on). So no worries, be happy.

I don't have any experience with the process myself, but I've heard that they actually ask you to remove the hard drive before sending the console away. Don't quote me on that, though. Additionally, Microsoft asks that you send no cords or controllers of any kind with the 360 when you send it in. Sony's procedure may be similar.

These certainly aren't facts, though. Just what I've heard.

Ok First off, NO WORRIES, Sony had a GREAT service compared to M$. And quick too.

My PS3 power supply broke. So I talkred to the call center and they got me set up. The box came, I put all my cords, (they do that so they can test it with the cables you use just in case.) I sent it off, and LES THAN A WEEK later, I got it back (The same one, all the stuff all my data intact) and it was all better.

I've gone through Microsoft's procedure two to three times before, that's another reason why I asked about the hardrive and the cables. Thanks though! I appreciate your response.

I had to send my Ps3 into Sony a couple of months ago. Once you call them and they tell you they will send you a box with instructions, you wait until you get that and the the instructions tell you to put everything into the box. This includes the console, the controller, the av cables, the power cord, and the usb cable. First before putting the console into the box, they ask that you restore it (basically wipe the drive). You do not take the HDD out. So i suggest any important things such as game saves, you should save onto a flash drive. Once you have wiped the drive, you put it in the box along with all of the accessories. They provide tape for you to seal the box up, and once you do that you put the UPS sticker over the old one and give it to UPS. I recieved my replacement about a week later. hope i could help.

I'm going to be Captain Obvious and ask, "so you sent the hardrive as well?". That does sound great. So how long exactly did it take for the box to get there? Mind you, I put my order in about eleven hours ago.

Less than a week for it to return would be great though. One of our good friends just got his Orange Box today and we were playing TF2 for sometime, we'd like to get back to playing together as soon as possible.

Thanks, that helped bunches. So everything, eh? Sounds good. She's backed up all her game saves and put it on my PS3 for the time being until she gets hers back, so everything has already been handled. I'll go ahead and do the restore when we get the box.Sounds for the most part like how the procedure for Xbox 360 goes with the exception of what you send back. Thanks again, appreciate all your help. Just like staying on top of things.

Yeah, I mean you can't take the hard drive out without voiding the warrenty, so yeah, you leave it in.
The box took less than a week to arrive and I sent it off on a Monday and got it back Friday, same week. I'm not sure about you, but I also live about a day away from a major city, so depending on where you live compared to a Sony repair center could vary. But I mean It won't take as long as Xbox. My 360 return took 3 months!

Neato. I live Orlando, Florida. I believe the repair center is also in Texas, as with Microsoft's 360 repair center? Not sure about that though.I was lucky enough to get my 360 back in two weeks.
