when i heard the PS3 was the first device to use HDMI 1.3 i was wondering if someitme in the near future when "deep color" is possible if sony could release some type of update that would put deep color into the PS3, and that if done games could be shown in this. Since the 360 hdmi is not 1.3 (1.2) then would it be possible for the PS3 to seperate itself visually from the 360 much more in the near future with much mroe impressive movie showing and game playing abilities??

Unfortunately, Deep Color is not in the Blu-ray movie spec and will not be used until the next format.  One of the reasons is space.  Apparently deep color eats a lot, even for Blu ray.  On the other hand, games could definetely benefit from it, but I would imagine we won't see this anytime soon because very few displays have HDMI 1.3.  Maybe 2+ years down the line, but this is purely my speculation.

hmm perhaps if blu-ray disks were dual layered and were unlocked at such a high capacity such as 50-100gb? maybe in a couple years late in ps3's lifespan it might be possible to see the deep color being processed through games on the ps3 on new tv's using hdmi 1.3

I would think we would eventually see them in games, but who knows for sure.  We will never see deep color Blu ray movies because it was not passed in the final spec.  No deep color in HD DVD either.

Deep color would benefit a game like Motorstorm.  Have you ever noticed the color banding in Motorstorms bright blue skies?  Would be eliminated if deep color were to be used.

Its not so much the .1, as the fact of what the .1 spec offers.  Its not just color either, there whole bunch of other benefits to HDMI 1.3.  It will be years before consumers see the advantage of it though, pretty much because our current stuff can't utilize it, and few things things are designed for 1.3

It certainly is future proof. By the time any of the PS3's extra features come into widespread use--HDMI 1.3, "deep color," 1080p, even BluRay--the PS4 will already be out.

I think it will be much sooner than that. Figure a PS4 is 6+ years away! High end equipment with HDMI 1.3 should appear before the end of this year with most mainstream consumer products appearing in maybe 2 years.

I said "widespread use." Expect them to be in common use no less than five years from now. Products may start appearing soon, but the market just went through a massive product blitz where tons of people have upgraded. I doubt they'll want to upgrade again in just two years.

Not Bluray nor HD-DVD has announced that they will support Deep Color............

 http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1975596,00.asp

"Although the "deep color" provision was added with the next-generation Blu-Ray and HD-DVD specifications in mind, no formal announcement of support has been made by either camp."

ONE THING EVERY ONE NEEDS TO KEEP IN MIND IS THAT EVEN IF THE 360 GET THE PORTS  the only TRUE HD they will get is from videos on XBL and demos  because sence its games comes on DVD,s the games arent able to put out hd .. so in the end M$ shows they were only talking BULLSIIITT when they said these jen didnt need no blueray.

only if they are alsow gona put a hd-dvd drive on its elit and eve IFF IF they do so .. what hapens to every one that has a 360 now ???  go sucj on a finger ?? and besides  people are gona get a new 360 because of extra HDD .. ?? stupid when u can get a ps3 and buy any SATA 2.5 HDD SATA said they are gona come out with a 500GB HDD in these summer .. well in the end my point is .. even if MS puts out its elit it wont ever be a true NEXT jen console because as far as looks go gears already went as far as the 360 can do (thats from the people that made gears said it ) .. so yeah kool pople can get a 360 with hdmi ports wowo .. but no hd games .. no hd movies .. only movies u rent from XBL ..

MS big mistake was not put a HD-dvd drive in its 360s .. sence blue ray is wayy to far for rhem lol..

this isnt true, blu ray will go up to 250gb in the future. so deep color can be added into it. plus PS3 games are "supposed to" add deep color before movies sometime in teh future when more TVs support it liek the one im getting this summer :).

Deep Color capability was introduced with the 1.3 HDMI spec (only the PS3 has this on the planet.  Not the new ELITE even has it.)

If final fantasy 15 used DEEP COLOR it would literally be a window into another world...

The human eye can see something around 32 bits of color.  What you are typically seeing is a maximium of 24 bits of color right now with existing computers and game consoles (everything).

The PS3 can output DEEP COLOR (over 32 bits) which means that its capable of putting out an image so realistic it will look like a glass window you can put your hand through.

To the guy who said BLUERAY couldn't do it you are miscontruing the implications.

Blueray spec right now says DUAL LAYER 50 GB maximum.   That could provide quite a bit of deep color imagery depending on extent of compression.

Odd since the PS3 was specifically designed with Deep Color in mind.

To my knowledge no TV can output deep color yet.

It might accept 1.3 HDMI inputs but not actually DISPLAY the deep color.

The LNT-XX61/65/66F line can do deep color as well. However, we will not see ANYTHING using deep color, or any of the visual benefits of HDMI 1.3 for a couple of years still. This thread is useless.

It will be a minimum of 5 years before we see enough "deep color"-capable products for the average consumer to start to care.

Your TV's input settings for the PS3 input might be off. Always use a calibration disc to get brightness, contrast, color, etc., to their ideals.

only if they are alsow gona put a hd-dvd drive on its elit and eve IFF IF they do so .. what hapens to every one that has a 360 now ??? go sucj on a finger ?? and besides people are gona get a new 360 because of extra HDD .. ?? stupid when u can get a ps3 and buy any SATA 2.5 HDD SATA said they are gona come out with a 500GB HDD in these summer .. well in the end my point is .. even if MS puts out its elit it wont ever be a true NEXT jen console because as far as looks go gears already went as far as the 360 can do (thats from the people that made gears said it ) .. so yeah kool pople can get a 360 with hdmi ports wowo .. but no hd games .. no hd movies .. only movies u rent from XBL ..

MS big mistake was not put a HD-dvd drive in its 360s .. sence blue ray is wayy to far for rhem lol..

porturocker

also you have to remember they have to make there games and content avaliable to everyoen which means the peopel with the core system which doenst have a hard drive or HDMI

well in the end they FUK UP about 9Mil people that got a 360 .. lol its sad if u ask me .. .. but yeah for a BIG conpany they are FULL OF SHI T .. first big talks that theres no need for hdmi and not hd-dvd games and blue ray and not they screw 9mil 360 user lol.. is sad and i wont be geting n new 360 im gona keep the one i got and i love my ps3 much more than the 360 atlest i know what to think and what im going to get from my ps3 and sony as far as MS i dont know nothing .. and well im better of with sony .. but yeah going back to the point it wont ever be a next jen console and wont have ever true HD games .. only if they add an hd-dvd drive and the next games are all hd-dvd but then lol hahaha to 9Mil users lol... any how ..

im happy with my ps3 and sony..

No...Just no...

Only Resistance has gone over the 9GB capacity of DVD9,  are you telling me Resistance is the only game out there that is "true hd"?  The even funnier thing is,  according to Sony's  "True HD" 1080p TV's,  Resistance is not "True HD" since it's 720p.

But anyways,   thats besides the point....Just because Resistance is the only game out there that goes over the capacity of DVD9, does not mean its the only game that's in HD.

Who are you referring to?

Untold Dreams, Deadpool, and Porturocker

Aren't you the same genius who said PS3 couldn't make more than 50,000 PS3's in a month due to failure of Blu-ray diode? and argued to no end about it?

No?  Perhaps it was another genius then.

I don't know if a HDTV out now even supports Deep Color. If there are, there aren't very many. Plus, the movie itself has to support it which I also think none or very few do. HDMI 1.3 is nice, but more a future spec. Only people with bleedy edge and expensive equipment can take advantage of it now. Even then, there aren't movies that support it. The HD audio formats are more widely used than Deep Color. Even then you need an expensive receiver that can accept HDMI. I have an 18 month old Sony ES receiver and Sony HDTV. I can not take advantage of HDMI 1.3 or anything it offers.
