It means you paid money to pirates and if you're lucky, the memory stick will work for a month before deciding to crap out.

probably a fake

but i think it's not that bad, since a friend of mine has a fake one and he's never complained about anything. In fact he is always making fun of me since mine was prizier than his. Still I don't trust fake sticks, but the worst it can happen is that they have less space available or they will suddenly die (maybe, but he's been using it since 2006, lucky bastard)

Also most of the time, they have alot less memory then advertised, like 2g cards have a gig or less, etc.

Backup everything you save to it, I got a 4 gig a long time back and it was fake, it worked okay, not great, then all the data corrupted and I lost everything.

those fake ones aren't exactly bad. They still save everything (assuming the PSP can recognize it in the first place) just fine. I bought a 512 MB memory stick a long time ago in Beijing and it was fake. The only downside to it is the fact that it has around 20MB less than a real 512 memory stick.

There are many kinds of fakes: less size, less quality... Depends on how the pirate is making the MS.
I got one on ebay, a 4 GB. It was really 2. Once, I was copying a movie, and I lost everything because a R/W error... I returned it, and fortunatelly I got my money back. So, it's a risk... you know if you go for it or no... Besides it's illegal
