I've been growing more and more interested in getting a PSP, but with that came the worry I have now about my Nintendo DS: games that can actually "stick" and have depth. The DS is great and all, but most of it's game are so "pick up and play" that it's almost laughable. I like games that I can spend a lot of time on (Action RPGs, solid FPS, and a polished racing game tickle my fancy).

So would the PSP be a good choice? I'm on the go a lot more than usual lately but I hate having to think that portable games are all as shallow as most of the DS Library...

thanks!

This is the exact reason why I chose the psp over the DS when making my decision on which hand held to get. I tested out both before hand, but found the psp library of games to be much better because of this simple fact. Some good games to get started with are MGS: PO, Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, Dungeon Siege Throne of Chaos, Syphon Filter Dark Mirror, Burnout Legends, Tekken Dark Resurrection. I could suggest a bunch more, but I'd be here for a while.

hmm, sounds good. That Dungeon Siege game looks pretty good, and Medal of Honor Heroes looks sweet. What's the best online capable racing game?

*Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony - and don't listen to what the poorly written review on this website says. As for best online racer, no idea as I don't play many racing games. Burnout was one of the first to actually keep my interest, so its pretty much the only racing I play (on any system). I know NFS: Carbon is online, and Test Drive Unlimited will be.

Horribly clunky though. Had we another 3D rpg, I'd play that instead of MH.

When Wii gets a good battery, screeen, games, and shrinks to DS's size, then yea, no need for a psp.

This one is Easy, because is a PS2 Portable, and for the Mature Gamer, with the Wii you need to be a Couch Potato and at top of that is for Kids.

Im amazed that the PSP still gets so much negative press. For me Its the most underrated console of all time (even more than the dreamcast).  Id encourage anyone to get one now, Its building a great library of games, a lot of them are ports, (some of them are fantastic ports by the way) but there are also some great original games coming out.  Personally IM looking forward to manhunt 2 , Dungeons and dragons tactics and Oblivion stories. This Plus gettting to play all those PS1 classsics like Catlevania SOTN dinocrisi2 and ffxIX makes it an awesome buy.

Lol I'm in the market for a psp and this has crossed my mind a few times.  It comes down to one thing though.  I aint buying a wii just for zelda.  The rest of the wii games look terrible imo.  Just a bunch of silly VC and minigames mostly.

Plus, I'd say that the PSP's graphics are comparable, if not better than the Wii's.

DONT LISTEN TO HIM ABOUT DUNGEON SIEGE, it is the worst game I have EVER played in my entire life, no matter what don't buy it, or even rent it

I am currently playing dungeon siege throne of agony on my psp. It is quite good. And I have played the PC version of dungeon siege 2. It is amazing what they did for the psp version. The controls are quite easy to learn cause the game tells you what even buttons does on the screen. Anyway, the graphics on the psp does remind me of good old dungeon siege. Dungeon siege is a RPG underneath but with a hack-and-slash feel like gauntlets. I am only up to chapter II on the quest. Anyway, it is a good game. But if you want a game that sticks, try Sid Mier's Pirates. I play the old original and loved it. Just started playing the psp version but so far so good. Also yugioh tag force is addictive if you are into (card) dueling. MGSPO is nice cause it allows you to recruit teammates. Locoroco is cute if you like puzzle.

I played the demo of Dungeon Siege and I liked it enough to get it. Same for Locoroco. We shall see though, now all I need is cash :P
