If you open it yourself, your warranty is dead. You'd best either go and have a proffesional repair it or use your warranty and take it back to get it fixed. I have the same problem on my PSP PHAT, where the R button sometimes sticks down so that it's being pressed down all the time and I have to tap it with my finger so that it unlocks. Some day soon when I get the PSP SLIM I will get the PHAT repaired, I also have a crack in either the actual screen or just the protective glass that covers the screen. So yeah, it's best to let the pros do the repairing, otherwise you might find yourself having to buy a new and "working" PSP.
