http://www.destructoid.com/review-ragnarok-odyssey-237672.phtml

"Visually, this might be the best-looking Vita title to date"

"For all its missteps as an action-RPG, it is simply flawless as an example of how to make a Vita experience work. Judicious use of touchscreen controls, beautiful visuals, a smartly broken-up mission structure and eerily swift loading times makes this the gold standard for Sony's portable.

If handheld developers don't take any cues from this one, they're absolutely doing it wrong."

"The controls are where Ragnarok Odysseyreally shines, and it's here where I justify my prior claim that this game "gets" the PlayStation Vita. Almost all of the controls are performed using the physical buttons."Review: Ragnarok Odyssey photohttp://www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/30/assassins-creed-iii-liberation-review

The Verdict

7.2

"Assassin's Creed III: Liberation is a simplified version of the Assassin's Creed franchise. The moves and kills you'd expect are here, but the story is boiled down to be easy to jump in and out of. That takes away some of the excitement in playing through it."

"Aveline is the first female lead for the franchise, and her internal struggle could make for an extremely interesting story shes the privileged daughter of a slave while slavery rages on. However, Liberation glosses over those threads. Outside of a bio page in the main menu, you're never given any details on how this woman went from a lost girl to an assassin. How did her mentor train her to kill without her stepmother or father noticing?"

  • +Assassinations on the go
  • +Lots to do
  • Framerate problems
  • Story issues
  • Forced Vita functionality

I'm so glad I waited for Liberation reviews. I saw a couple good first impressions and was about to do an impulse buy when I saw it on psn last night. It still looks like a good game but I don't feel like spending full price on it. RO on the other hand looks really good from what I've seen. Will probably pick it up as soon as I put more funds in my wallet.

TBH these are the best games out! AC liberation's town is bigger then I thought, really nice graphics too. Same with Ragnarok, game is too addicting.

IGN gave Ragnarok a 5.0

Blake135

i assumed as much, seeing as the TC quoted one sites review for one game, and another site for the other game.

TC should work in politics

Löl I didn't see the RO review on IGN last night. I gain nothing by making the game look artificially better than it is. This isn't system wars.

Also, when I posted the RO review I believe it was the first online, having only been up for an hour. Nobody on neogaf mentioned RO review on so I didn't assume it was up :)

So far IGN is the only website that gave RO a score less than 8. Also, some of the comments in the review are about how the reviewer didn't give the game much of a chance. I'm still excited to play it, people shouldn't scratch it off their list just because of one review.

I think I'm still just as unsure about Ragnarok Odyssey as I've ever been. If the range in review scores is that wide, maybe it's just going to be an average game?

Well, I hope people who were really looking forward to it are liking it. The Vita needs to have a stronger library to attract a larger userbase.

EDIT: I am referring to Ragnarok Odyssey

Just wondering: since this game gets so many comparisons to Monster Hunter, does it have any of that game's depth in combat?Do the classes play as differently as Monster Hunter's weapons do? Are enemy attacks varied and well-animated?

The monsters and brilliant combat are what make Monster Hunter great to me, and I'm curious if this game captures any of that.

No, on all accounts :( I was hoping for a good monster hunter-ish game butthis certainly isn't it.

Shame, I was really hoping for the same thing. Hopefully Soul Sacrifice will fill that void, and it's looking that way in coverage so far.

Gravity 6.5, Assassins Creed 6.5, I assume they will give Soul Sacrifice a 6.5 just to keep it going hahah.

I agree with both of those reviews, and they're far from the only ones to be a little bit harsh about those particular games. Gamesradar gave ACIII: Liberation a 6.0. That aside, gamers need to realize that even a 6.5 is a very respectable score. How many 6.5 movies have you watched? More than a few, I'm willing to bet. You can still find a lot of value in a deeply flawed game. And I'd say AC: L isn't even "deeply flawed", merely that there's lots of little problems that hold it back. It sounds like it's still worth your time. Finally, I have higher hopes for Soul Sacrifice. Unlike most games, they're taking some immense creative risks with Soul Sacrifice, and it sounds extremely unique and innovative. I'm not going to go ahead and predict a review score, but it's got a lot going for it. Of course, the same was said of Gravity Rush, but that game only really innovated in movement mechanics. Soul Sacrifice is looking to innovate in how we approach combat and gameplay systems, with the sacrificing mechanics and spell-based combat.

From what I've played of AC: L so far it seems like GS was a little harsh on the game.

Yeah they knocked a lot of stuff that they "wished" it did instead of rating it on what it does do. I've enjoyed the game, aside from 1 canoe bug it seems to be a polished game that they put a lot of effort into.

Have both games love them both. The ragonrok got a low score simply because it didn't match up to the reviewers tastes.i imagine he would have gave a monster hunter game a similar score as this looks like the first game of this type that he has reviewed. He just doesn't like killing the same monster over again to get materials for his armor, which is exactly what you do in monster hunter...

Darn, i did not expect ragnarok to be like this and also with ac3 L it just did not have a backbone and it has a frame rate issue for a freakin hamdheld with 4 cores.
