I have a problem. My dad is 100% convinced that Red Dead: Redemption is just Grand Theft Horse.

The start of a Flame War is soon to come, so would you kindly fill this page with arguments showing that Red Dead: Redemption is something different than Grand Theft Horse, and actually a western-tale/adventure.

Please avoid giving comments such as "more" or "bigger".

I trust you with my life. (Not really.)

What exactly does your father find wrong with GTA? And by GTA I'm assuming GTA4.

GTA in general. And if you haven't been living under a rock the last, say, 20 years, you should probally know that GTA have a bad reputation, for being "violent" and "meening-less". The orgin of this is mostly the first GTA, because it was one of the first game where you could just shoot a civilian in the face, and just get away with it. What I am trying to say is that the overall understanding of parents is: GTA=Bad

I don't remember any optional side missions with any relevence to the game in GTA4 ... and I don't remember a zombie mode ... nor do I remember the graphics being really great and the gunfighting being excellent ...

GTA4 was annoying in most areas - I'm just glad I sold it and it's out of my collection

Well you never stated your father had an issue with the violence. It honestly looks like he's just saying they're the same game and you're looking to argue they're different. GTA4 is much different than the previous installments. The violence isn't gratuitous. The story and characters are very solid. It is a mature themed game. RDR is very similar in all aspects when compared specifically to GTA4. The protagonist is a little more charismatic. The game is more gunplay oriented. It is a mature themed game. There are much more violent games out there. There are few games that have more mature themes or deeply developed plots. Maybe if you expose him to the plot of both it may put the gameplay in context. You're not just randomly going around being violent. If that's the problem, I can't imagine you're allowed to play many big titles. If that's not the problem, maybe your dad just needs a cliff notes version and some game time with you.

Red Dead Redemption is still REALLY violent. Not as bad as GTA4 but still really bad, but the argument that it is meaningless violence is complete bs. There is a story to be told in both GTA4 and RDR that justifies why Niko Bellic/John Marston have to kill the people that he kills. And going around on killing sprees like you can isn't as fun as it is on RDR as it was on the previous GTA games, there's almost no point to it. What I am saying is that yes there is graphic violence but the story backs it up in a reasonable way.

Lol, I call shenanigans. GTA is just awful, only San Andreas is worth playing. RDR on the other hand, had an excellent story, great visuals, fun online play, and a killer zombie mode.

I'm not sure I understand the point of the topic? Are you asking if the gameplay in GTA and RDR is similar, or are you asking if the degree of violence is the same? RDR is rated M for a reason.

This is a wicked tiny detail bug its bugging the hell out of me....there's no colon in the title. Its just Red Dead Redemption.

And I loved RDR, poured over 50 hrs into that game and haven't even done the Undead DLC yet. Was never a fan of the GTA series. But RDR has excellent story and dialogue, scenary is gorgeous, and controls are tight and responsive.
