So who else HATED the ending to Red Dead Redemption? I mean John just walks out and basically just gave himself up.. the game should hve at least given you the ability to kill everyone and have a different ending...

< MORE SPOILERS >

Even though you can do the 'Remember My Family' mission to get revenge (I emptied ALL of my ammo on his dead body), the ending is still very unsatisfactory and playing the game has such an 'empty' feeling for me now. It doesn't feel the same...if you know what I mean

I liked the ending. And if he lived and escaped with his family the government would just keep hunting him. He sacrificed himself to save his family and allowed them time to escape, even though they still came back like four minutes later.

I loved the ending, I thought it was very surreal riding around the map as jack instead of the main character you spent 30 + hours with.

I was a little disappointed with the ending. It was tight how it played out though with the bullet time stand off.

I saw that ending coming from 10 miles away. It was the underlying theme of the entire game, you can't escape your past.

Same and 100% agreed.

Sorry TC, but wishing for a different ending means 2 things: 1) you were attached to the character, so Rockstar did their job right and 2) you totally missed the point behind the ending.

The old west mentality (John Marston) being killed by the technological era of civilization (Edgar Ross and the FBI) was a rather fitting ending, as far as I'm concerned. It didn't matter how much he resisted it, eventually it was going to overtake him whether he liked it or not.

After all, not until the ending do we realize why the game is called "Red Dead REDEMPTION."

Ditto, and in all honesty, it follows the ending to just about all the old western movies anyways. It's not like the guy was a saint, and that's the usual ending to most characters of his nature.

The death of John and his former gang meant the decline of the Wild West. Edgar Ross represented civilization and its impending arrival-- honestly, TC, the game could NOT have ended any better.

yeah, the ending was pretty bad. john had taken out larger groups of badguys in the game before. the in-game marston couldve easily killed them. its too bad there is a totally different cutscene marston.

That's true. Especially since I had like 8 dynamite on me. Plus I died several times during other missions, that time he actually died..

He had to get himself killed! If not, his family would of been killed. The government has issued that he was a criminal so everyone is against him - they are also coming after him directly. If he died, then Abbie and Jack could live (though Abbie died somehow?).

They wanted to finish the story while leaving it open for a sequel starring Jack who will want further retribution.

The ending was great, it completely went with the entire theme.

It was far from horrible. If you guys look into the ending at the surface, you've missed a lot of great stuff.

I believe you mean 1914. In 1944 we were nearing the end of World War II. :P

The ending upset me, but not because it was a bad ending but because I liked the character enough that it pissed me off that he died at the end. I thought him coming out and automatically going into dead eye just to take out as many as possible was pretty BA. Like a good spaghetti western.

Really, especially considering you just killed twice that many people in that very mission. The ending was good story wise (and to me because I wanted him to get shot many times in the game) but they should have killed him in a different way, not in some pointless scene like that. He didn't even just walk out to get shot, you could still shoot a few of them. Also it was kind of odd that the federal guys put themselves in danger while hunting the last gang member but wouldn't call in more reinforcements, but then they will throw all those men at you that you kill.

I too was saddened by the the ending. Saddened but not disappointed....I get whole symbolism thing and he had to die (just like in any good story).

******** Old movie spoilers coming up********* Just like in any good movie you sometimes hate to see the main character die. Who else hated that Al Pacino's Character dies in "Scarface" or even in "Carlito's Way"? Or even Eastwood in "Unforgiven"? I get it and it makes for a better story but it still sucked (not the movie or the game, just the fact that those characters are gone).

Well done Rockstar, well done. It's just a testament to great writing... just like someone said before me.

That was the most fitting ending I could've thought of. John did everything with his family in mind, even sacrificing his own life to assure their safety. I emptied the entire 8 shots from the high powered pistol Ross gave John into his head. It didn't even look like him, ******* 8)

Thanks brick for explaining it correctly. This is why it's a good ending in my book. I had to think about it too before I passed judgement.

Were you disappointed because you thought it was bad or because it made you sad? Bear in mind, sad =/= bad.
