If you bought a PS3 around Xmas of '07 and had it fail right about a year later (right after the warranty ran out), please respond to this posting. My PS3 got only moderate use, as there were only two games that appealed to me (Drake's Fortune and Tomb Raider), so there's no way the PS3's failure was due to usage. And within one year, the HD/scanner failed and would not read games. I contacted Sony and they were more than happy to repair the thing for around $140 (plus shipping) and I just think that's outrageous; especially since my PS2 is still running fine, and how old is THAT THING? If Sony can't make a game console (that sold for $600) work more than a year, something is way wrong. And I can't say I'm in a hurry to fork out another $400-$600 for another PS3, only to have THAT fail. Anyone else out there have something like this happen to them?

Did it ever occur to you that ALL electronics have a failure rate? You could buy a $4,000 HDTV tonight at Best Buy, come home, and it doesn't work... You see, the manufacturing process is NOT perfect, so there will always be a small percentage of faulty devices out there for as long as all products exist. You experienced an unfortunate situation, yes. However, it's not due to design flaws or anything of the sort. It's simply just a typical part of electronics and all products in general. Even plastic forks don't turn out perfectly 100% of the time.
