When do they charge the cost of the console? Is it now or when it ships? I just want to know before I do because I'd like to preorder then save up for it.

is there any way to get extended warranty from Sony as Amazon won't do it?

More often than not, extended warranties are bogus. For example Best Buy's fine print says they won't replace a unit until they've tried to repair it 3 times. And while they are sending it into Sony for you, you go without. And the turnover for the repair is usually a month. So after 3 times, that's 3 months without your console.... Not to mention the hassle you have to go through with Best Buy. There are usually 3rd party companies that have warranty for electronics on Amazon, though... but I suspect they're going to be a hassle, as well.
