the only thing i see people talking about is the level creator, well this isn't something that is really new.. and most games that have the options to create levels don't use the option, or even downloading the levels don't really use it.. with the exception of fps. So outside of having the ability to create levels what is the appeal of this game?MaxxNight
Actually, that's not completely a true statement, If you are talking about creating mods on a computer even when using something like Gary's mod, it's still pretty important to have at-least some knowledge in programming. No console game to date has a lever creator quite like LBPs.
Anyone can pick up the controller and make just about anything they want as long as it's possible within a 2d platforming design. Halos Forge was a cool idea in letting people drop different items into maps, but LBP is completely different, you are able to create your enemies, traps, background, entire scenes with only your imagination to limit you. I know that some people may not like the game because of it's "Kiddie" look but that's actually part of the charm the game has, not every game has to have blood, guts, and T&A to be awesome.
( Although you can create blood within the game, if you can find the Spider boss level that one of the designers made, he ripped the limbs of the spider and blood spurts out, it was pretty cool.)
I am a Sony fan I won't lie about that, but I had very little previous excitement for LBP up until about a month ago, and now that I finally am playing the Beta, I can honestly say that I can see LBP getting at-least a few Game of the Year awards.
Disagree all you want, but I'm saying this as someone who is a huge fan of both Metal Gear Solid, and Fallout.

I remember Sonic the Hedgehog having a level designer 15 years ago on the Sega Genesis. You could build a whole level with loops, spring boards, enemies, coins, whatever was in the game you could use. It didn't have online to share with your friends but I don't think that would have stopped it from getting old. Obviuosly LBP is more advanced, but that was 15 years ago and it didn't generate any hype or get anyone excited to buy Sonic. I think people will buy LBP, realize they just spent two hours creating something that takes 5 minutes to play through and feel it's a waste of time. Except for people with children, who will feel it's worth the time investment.

You also have to remember that gaming is a much more popular medium in today's world, more and more people are interested in how these things are made. You may be right though playing your own level may end up getting boring after awhile but that's why everyone can create them, it creates the possibility that the game will last longer than most other games ever have a chance to.
Playing user created levels can be a mixed bag, but given the amount of creativity just in the beta so far it gives me allot of hope for the final release and for a long time after it's release. Just think that, allot of games became huge names in gaming because of User generated content, Never Winter Nights, Unreal, and Half- life come to mind. The only major difference is that everyone is able to make that content, not just people who have taken programming classes.
Also I believe that people are only talking about the level creator is because there are only 3 levels from the 50 made by MM, so it's just a small taste of whats coming from that aspect, I really think the Stephen Fry did an awesome job narrating it, but I happen to be a Fry fan so that may just be me.
Who knows the game may flop big time, but right now I just can't see that happening, and I'm almost %100 positive the game will live up to the hype.

come on man, your late to the party.
go watch the dozens of videos about this game or something, the answer is right there.

Really??? I mean you could have said RPG, but obviously you lack the capacity to enjoy anything but PYOOO-PEW-PEW! games :)
And hype?? That's obviously coming from someone who didn't play/doesn't even wanna try it... Feeling jealous that your FPSes are being over-shadowed by an original game doesn't entitle you to call a game over-hyped just because you obviously don't care about it...
Opinions are like body cavities, just because you got them doesn't mean we wanna hear about it...
Too bad there is a lot of confusion with kids these days, seems like they think opinions matter as much as facts...
Fact : The majority of games coming out are TPS or FPS... We don't have a need for them, that's like being in the 80s and complaining about Final Fantasy coming out and instead wanting a Side-Scrolling Platform game
Fact : Most games with level design capabilities have non-user-friendly tools or they limit what you can do with them... Doing those right, along with the ability to award any item you created as prizes for other players has never been done, not to mention the 4-player coop.
Fact : LBP is awesome and if you don't think so who cares? If you need another FPS, fine by me, no need to troll and belittle LBP... Go at the bargain bin and pick up 10 FPS for 30$ and stop lamenting...
When LBP was first announced, I was like WTF? You couldn't get me no where close to this game, but one day I decided to see what all the talk was about and this charming game became one of my most anticipated games. LBP is bring something that has never been done on a consoles (at least this well) This is a game where you can express your creativity and gaming skills to others.
you can make anything you want- which should provide for some hilarious levels involving erhem... anatomy.jakndaxter7223

Really, what's the point of starting this thread when there have been 800 other threads exactly like this?

I also am LMAO!
This is the most original game in a very long time. Its not going to appeal to everyone if it did I would know the end of the world would be near. Also not everyone needs to kill something in a video game. The beta far exceeded my expectations for the game and its also a great family oriented game, meaning if you have kids or like myself a 5yr old nephew who enjoys video games this is a must have IMO.
I dont mind people not having an appeal for the game. But to say that it's unoriginal and that it's been done before is unfounded on reason. LBP takes creativity and creation to a new level, and I am so surprised that people can compare LBP to Sonic (in terms of level editors).
And what's even more bewildering is that people pass this game by because it looks childish. First, throw out the whole success of Mario games if you even think that. Games don't have to be rated M to be FUN and that's what gaming is all about. I also find that the majority of people who pass this game up based on the friendly theme of the game are pubescent little boys that are trying to prove to themselves that they are men for playing FPS.
Now if you don't like this game, then that is fine, I for one am hyped. I hate jumping into hype wagons but after playing the Beta I can throw out all doubt and jump head first into the LBP community.
