Reasons to rank up in Mod Nation Racers??? (MP)

So typically there are advantages to ranking up in MP games, ie new cars new guns, new abilities, however I am not seeing this in ModNation Racers, am I wrong or are there reasons to rank up in MP mode??

apparently you unlock more creation slots at a certain level, but that it i think.

theres nothing really but it is still quite fun playing online
