I used to have the 60GB and had to give it up due to money issues but I'm about ready to buy me another PS3 but we all know that the 60GB was far superior than the Slim model but is a refurbished 60GB better or equal to a Slim or am I better buying a brand new Slim model? I'm also aware that i'd be paying more for the refurb. 60GB..

Get the Slim, i had to make the same decision as you, and I choose the PS3 Slim, it was the better choice!

I've had 2 60gbs, first one the bluray drive died, the 2nd was a refurb from sony and I got YLOD. I've got a slim now, and it doesn't get as hot. Get the slim!

The only features the slim has that I would care about WRT the ps3 is the lower power consumption, and the CEC support over HDMI (which IMO could probably just be retrofitted to ALL ps3's via firmware update, but...). A 60GB model would get you true BC, many USB ports, usability of most common flash memory types without requiring a card reader to occupy said precious USB ports, the ability to install Linux... the list goes on. I vote for the 60GB, all the way.

Do NOT get a refurbished system. Refurb systems were previously broken and returned and have supposedly been fixed. Are you really gonna spend that much money on a system that has already failed and been returned once?

i agree %100..my 60GB died on me and i could have gotten it fix because i had the money at the time but i choose to get a slim. trust me that Refurb PS3 will last you about 7 months tops then break down again.

With the Slim model you'd get a non-refurbished console with a hard drive that's twice as big for the same price. Is that really such a hard decision? :P

Man, I wish I had waited just a few months more before getting my 400$ 80GB original PS3...

Grab the slim and have yourself a fresh 1 year warranty if something happens to it. If you feel the need to play some PS2 games a slim PS2 can be had for cheap.

negating aesthetics and considering just functionality; do you have an interest in ps2 back catalog and lack a ps2, do you have a interest in playing legacy consoles e.g snes, genesis, nes, etc on your ps3 (as seen here), do you for-see using of the 60GB's memory card readers and extra 2 usb ports? If the answer is yes to just the first question then you might just be better off with a slim and a used ps2. If your answer is yes just for the second then you can save money buy purchasing a 40GB refurb for about $200. If your answer is yes to all three then a 60GB might be worth the extra cash that they currently sell for.

I'm in the same boat and I have an broken 80gb. Honestly I don't remember a time when I used the media readers, but I use the USB ports alot. Since I pay my own electricity bill, I'm geared towards 33% less power but I just need the cash heh.

I just called in today about my 60gb launch model, it would beep twice then shut down with the red light blinking. I decided to get mine repaired. I can't seem to give up my 60gb launch model.

i would get the 60gb simply for the backwards compatability with ps2. i still do not understand why sony took out bc, they removed one of the best selling points for the ps3...with bc with ps2 and ps1 games the 60 gb is the ultimate gaming system

Just get the Slim so you don't have to deal with the YLOD for the 60GB model. I have a 60GB model & it has died twice from YLOD. I'm gonna take it apart & play with it later down the road when I get a Slim!

Even though the 60g is the better console I would ''NEVER'' buy a used system if I did not know the previous owner. Go ahead and get the slim and a good warranty...peace of mine is priceless.
