I was curious to see how this game is. I heard it uses the same engine as GTA 4 and I absolutely hated that game. I was wondering if there's any chance that I would like RDR, considering that I find the Western theme much more interesting rather than the whole modern, NYC theme.

Its honestly different from GTA IV. Sure there are some familiar gameplay elements, but overall it looks and feels different to GTA.

I think it's a very different experience. I was one of the apparent few who didn't enjoy GTA 4, but RDR is one of my favorite games this gen! Just my $0.02

well why did you hate GTA 4 ? was it the gameplay or was it the story? anyway they are not that similar, graphics are about the same but gameplay is alitte different. And it is in the west with small towns and farms not a big modern day city.

Being an avid hater of GTA, except the top down view originals, I feel that Red Dead is in every way the same as GTA.. minus the cars with a horse..

It felt the same imo...just a different setting, different guns, horses, same old boring missions and nothing really interesting to do outside of missions.

Everytime I had to do one of those out and back escort missions I felt like I was playing GTA. When out in the open world it didn't feel like GTA, but when I was on alot of the missions it sure felt like it. That being said I really liked RDR, while the last GTA I thought was ok at best.

RDR Is just very dull and boring. One of the worst things Is travelling from town to town on a horse which at first Is great at It gets boring after a while

i dont really see how anyone could say the game is boring. the beginning of the game is pretty slow, but it picks up a few hours into the game. the story is great. the characters are some of the best in any videogame, and the voice acting is top notch. it might use the same engine but RDR looks alot better than gta4 imo. the western landscapes are breathtaking. if you like the old west setting you should definitely pick this up. theres a ton of stuff to do in the game.

It's quite surprising to see how different the two games are. Coming into the game i was expecting it to be pretty much identical to GTA IV in one way or another.

But instead it felt completely fresh and new, and is definitely worth the purchase.

The aiming system seems different to me, but somewhat the same. I mean you move the same, but when you're aiming the weapons it just seems tigher than GTA IV ever was. That could just be me, though.

no, the shooting controls are alot tighter than gta4, and the cover system is much more fluid. ive been playing gta4 recently and its so frustrating fighting the controls when several enemies are coming towards you. the controls can be downright horrible at times. in contrast, rdr's controls are wayy better. its like night and day.

The controls and gameplay are pretty similar, but RDR has a few tweaks to the aiming. The feel of the game is very familiar to GTA 4.

the way you control your player and everything is very similar, but theres no denying the everything is much tighter in RDR.

Yeah, I hear you. My brother's mainly the one who plays GTA IV anymore, it's been so long since I've played that I've forgotten about much of the aiming. Red Dead, however, is just... smoooooth. Very nice. :)

I think the aiming and general gunplay is much tighter than GTA 4 - but other than that it's near enough the same.

It really isn't. Controls are kind of lame though. The story line is amazing and epic. Multiplayer is not bad either.

Yeah that's what I meant. That and the camera in RDR isn't as aggressive with the auto centering itself like in gta4 which made just walking around a real chore. I think the cover system is also a lot more responsive in RDR as well.
