Hello guys,

I've got a 40GB PS3 and my friends got a 60GB PS3 and his has gone belly up lol, it turns on but nothing comes up on the screen no sound nothing sometimes if im lucky it will come on but all i get is the background with the wavey line thing and it just hangs there, So im assuming it needs formatting so my question is this can i reformat myfriends 60GB hard drive in my 40GBPS3with no problems because the 60GB PS3 is the only oneto be able to playPS2 games and has some more other things as well?

Cheers

Jamie

"so my question is this can i reformat myfriends 60GB hard drive in my 40GBPS3"

Technically, yes.
Though first, I would try putting your hard drive in his PS3 and see if it boots up okay.
If it doesn't, something is wrong with his PS3 and not his hard drive.

Okey dokey i'll try that first, I've made a backup of my harddrive using that backup utility but im not sure if its copied all my saved games i know there is a issue with Copy Prohibated andit took 14GB space on my External HardDrive so i can only hope so........because you get folders in the PS3 folder when ya do the backup i think called"Export" and "saved games" but i actually copied individually my saved games that i could ages and i dont know if there from before lol

Sounds like something is wrong with the PS3 mainboard. I doubt the HDD is the issue. Swapping HDD's between different PS3's is not friendly. You will get an error message if you do this...

Even before that, I'd reset video settings to see if it's a simple problem. Turn it on but keep the power touch button pressed until it beeps again and it will reset the video settings to default.

No i thought of the reseting of the video settings first no luck there, i tried his harddrive in mine and it came on but i couldnt do anything apart from reformat it, he said it switched off while he was deleting a friend or he switched it off accidently lol, so if its his motherboard he'll lose all his data either way won't he, its either reformatting it or replacing the motherboard lol
