I have an almost 4-year-old first gen PS3 and it has started to freeze and crash on me. I can either send it in to Sony and have them fix it and get a bigger hard drive for it for a total cost of about $200-$300 and that way I could still play PS2 games on it. OR I could just buy a new PS3slim with 320 GB (instead of 500 GB) that comes with a Playstation Eye, a Playstation Move and Sports Champions but I will not be able to play PS2 games on it. So whats everyones opinions on the two options?

Sony only offers a 30 day warranty it's a better decision to buy a new slim with more memory and a new warranty with a free game then to pay 200-ish amount Sony charges. Me personally if my ps3 broke I'd just ditch the Ps3 for the rest of this generation and maybe repair my 60gb model because a ps3 isn't a ps3 if it can't play the ps2 library in my opinion.

I'm in the same boat as you. My 80 gb just died. I'm choosing to get a new system. It's nice to have BC but I don't find myself playing ps2 games that often. I would rather get a new system and warranty so I can play new games. I would say get a new system and if you have the urge to play ps2 games in the future go out and get a cheap ps2.

Just get a new one. Repaired PS3s usually don't stay fixed for long and usually end up breaking soon thereafter. The same thing happened to me several months ago and I just got a new slim.

I was in the same situation I just bought a gig GOW - bundle :) if you don't think you'll be playing ps2 games for a while then just get a new one plus alot of ps2 games are getting the HD make over :o however if you can't part with your B/C then I suggest just sending it in repairs or actually repairing it yourself if you know what the problem is theres alot of good guides out there :) best of luck plus if you do decide to get a new ps3 I suggest waiting untill the christmas holiday - probably better deals/bundles
