well.. the topic's title says it all.. i've just re-playing resident evil for 2 hours now. "i played it 5 years ago". and i've just realised this "Resident Evil 5 is a comlete clone of Resident Evil 4" in almost everything.

i remember watching the launch interview from resident evil 5's director saying that he'd spent four years making this game and it took him a lot of time to make the decision that the game will be in Africa and blah blah. and this is what we got .. the same game but different characters.

so, guys, i wanna hear your opinions .. what do you think??

The only real copy/paste job from Resident Evil 4 to Resident Evil 5 are the controls. The tiny fragments (and I mean TINY) of horror or spookiness in Resident Evil 4 are now replaced with ****s-to-the-wall action. The feeling of isolation is also given a curb-stomp in favor of a very good co-op experience. Controls aside, Resident Evil 5 didn't feel like Resident Evil 4 at all to me. They were both completely different experiences and both entertaining to no end. Also, I want to add that Resident Evil 5 is my favorite co-op game of all time, and I'm a very stingy guy when it comes to co-op experiences. I played through the main campaign on Professional difficulty multiple times with my brother and friends, and I never got tired of it.

Pretty much. And I didn't like the fact you had a partner throughout the SP experience, especially one who was really trigger happy and liked to steal shots. Sheva actually made me miss Ashely in RE4. Though I didn't like that RE4 was not as scary as past RE games it did have elements of survival horror but RE5 completely took that out in favour of a more popular approach, making it just another shooter.

Resi 5 wasn't as good as 4 imo. Just didn't feel as polished and wasn't much fun for me. Gameplay is similar, but not enough to say its a direct copy.

Resident evil 4 is legendary.

Resident evil 5 on the other hand, almost completely forgettable IMO.

apart from controls, I don't find them to be very similar at all. different locations, story, approach and bosses, just to name a few. both are great games, don't know why someone who enjoyed RE4 would hate RE5.....seems popluar to do it though.

I don't recall Resident Evil 4 having online Co-op, so no...it's not really a copy/paste.

yes, Resident Evil 4 is considered to be a mix of survival horror and fast-packed action but when Resident Evil 5 came out, it was all action game. I'm replaying RE4 and i'm having a great time maybe even more than Resident Evil 5.

RE4 was in the last gen, and RE5 is in the current-gen consoles, it's normal that RE5 has been built in co-op but i'm talking about the game's environment. how it's designed. Like RE5's Marshland is as the same as RE4's big lake where Leon fights the big infected fish and when you pursue Irvine's big boat and in the middle you have gates to open them. it's the same with the RE4's last chapters in the game.

RE4 was amazing story wise, action wise, inventory system was pioneered, isolation and horror were top notch, and the game was over 20 hours!!! while RE5 was just a huge disappointment bc there was no innovation at all except the graphics due to next gen consoles... RE5 aint got nothing on RE4!

I agree with this. Although, I will say by far RE4 was a better experience because of the amount of innovations it brought to gaming and how it perfectly walked the line between survival horror and action. Actually, RE4 might just be my favorite game of all time :P

RE 4 and 5 are no RE. Unlimited ammo, it was supposed to be scary or something. IMO the only RE's worth of being played are RE1, and RE Outbreak 1&2. I remember playing RE 4 and it was a joke compared to the old ones. RE5 = RE4.

Titanic won how many Oscars? Awards are for the most part meaningless.

The game's share similarities but aren't identical.Weapon switch/inventory,mercs,melee,story and characters where all better in RE5.RE4 has one of the worst story's ever for a highly rated game.It lacks scares and has little to no horror at all.

the last true survival horror resident evil game was Resident Evil: Code Veronica X and Resident Evil 4 had survival horror elements but not as much as the old ones of course. But i don't know if i can count RE4 as horror game or not because the horror has ended when RE5 came.

it's really sad to see how capcom turned a game which was considered a soul of video games in general into an action game that shares the same stuff as other action games.

I disagree completely RE4 had no co - op play and no cover system which sucked by the way in RE5. Plus RE4 is awesome compared to RE5.

copy paste? lol that could be aplied to most games. GoW3 was a copy paste of gow2 and that was a copy paste of gow1. uncharted 2, a copy paste of uncharted 1 ect ect. my self, i loved re5. it made some imporovments on part 4 with better graphics, larger areas to fight in, co-op,more enimies with better AI, an ai partner which from my exp was a compatent AI attempt ect. Im not saying re5 was better just that it did do some things better and did a couple new things. It was def not the big change in the series that re4 was but not every game has to be.

you do realise that RE5 was so linear right ?

but i'm not talking about the game-play mechanics here only. i'm talking about the whole game being the same thing you did in RE4, you do it in RE5.

of course, RE5 is a good game for co-op especially in Mercenary Mode.

RE4's stroy was really better than RE5 story wise that is, but the improvemenet in RE5 was amazing in the ACTION and inventory system wise, but not the horror and the longevity. RE4 was a long game , unlike the RE5 was like 10 hours when i beat it and each chapter had 1 to 3 stages. But RE4 had 6 chapters, each one had 5 stages except for the final boss whch was considered as a chapter in his own right.

Resident Evil 4 I did enjoyed but not as much as Resident Evil 2 and 3.

As for RE5, the only similarity it shares with RE4 is the controls. It's a flat out action game and it shouldn't had carried Resident Evil name.

To turn such a popular and successful Survival Horror franchise into mindless action is one of the reasons I'm loosing fate into video games. When was the last time we had proper Silent Hill game or similar experience?

Dead Space is somewhat like the old days but it quickly turns out into super space marine with enough firepower to take out a army.

Maybe I'm being nit-picky.. I just miss proper survival horror games...

Firstly, you are saying that Titanic isnt a good movie lol wow... I wont even reply to that since its not the topic... second: RE4 had way better inventory system, way better story and characters and DIALOGUES than RE5's slapstick... and it was a good mix between horror, scares and action, unlike RE5 which was all steroid action and nobody cared about story wise cuz there was no story in RE5, except Wesker showing up pffff.!

Copy and paste? Cmon OP, what kinda logic is that? If you say 'caopy and paste', that would be applying to so many other franchises.

Anyway, RE5 was just a great game, it has similar controls to RE4, the over the shoulder view, and pretty much that is where they are both the same. RE stopp being 'scary' since the first game, idk where people come out with that RE was scary at all in the first place (whimps).

What RE4 had that RE5 didn't have was more suspense, RE4 seem to have a more creepy vibe than RE5 had and RE4 is just the overall better of the two, still RE5 had great Co-op, great story, Wesker, big boobs (excella), and JILL =)... even tho she got a strange big nose.

lol.. you're funny. what 's OP by the way ??

yeah, i know RE5 is a great game no doubt about that. i'm a big fan of RE in general but we weren't talkng about how scary the game was, but how it used to have horror elements in the game and it's sad not to see it in today's RE game. But if you sum up all RE5's story, the only interesting thing that Wesker showed up in the game, the rest is just like "Chris Redfield on his regular shift day" game plus Wesker being killed. that's all. another PLUS, i care less about excella's boobies. She was damn annoying. "Do i sense concern?"

like said before, I don't understand why people that loved RE4 hate RE5. Ok, 4 is better, but 5 was a lot of fun 2 and absolutely not a bad game.
