Resistance 2 vs Far Cry 2 (poll)

Made this poll because Socom was losing as hell on other poll thread (Socom vs Resistance 2), and lots of people's comments say Far cry will be better than both of them. So wanted to see which will get more votes this time.

Please vote and discuss.

Far Cry 2. The only thing that could really make me change my mind about this game is if it gets tons of bad reviews but even if it did I would still be skeptical about things.

Its alright people can pick Resistance 2 for now but once Far Cry 2 comes out and people see what can be done on the map editor along with how big the game is then people are going to start changing their minds about Resistance 2 being better than Far Cry 2.

Another thing I can't figure out is why big bosses in Resistance 2 are going to make that much of a difference. Yeah they will be cool for a little bit but what if in Far Cry 2 you could hunt down a cheetah running 70 mph....know that would be cool.

If I was a dev of the game I would of included it to where you could hunt animals and build like a trophy room

As much as I love Resistance, and expect to love Resistance 2, I think Far Cry 2 is going to reign supreme.

With it's open world African backdrop, how much the day/night cycles and weather will affect how you play, the map editor, and everything else it brings to the table, Far Cry 2 has all the signs of best shooter for 2008.

I expect greatness from both titles, but I have to put Far Cry 2 above Resistance 2, just a little.

As much as I love Resistance, and expect to love Resistance 2, I think Far Cry 2 is going to reign supreme.

Are you kidding? Far cry 2's world is so much more open, you can do anything you want, the weather changes the outcome of the game. Besides the environment looks much more interesting and beautiful than R2's.

It may be cool at first but I am thinking it may get old pretty quick. I am just reminded of GTA IV. God I thought that game was horrible.

But unlike FC2, GTA IV didn't bring much of anything new to the table. I still loved it.

Far cry 2 looks a lot better imo.

i might have to disagree with you on that, i pick R2 becuase i liked the story of RFOM, where as FC is kinda like meh, but thats my opinion.

As much as I would like to agree with you because I LOVE Afrika settings, I can't imagine far cry 2 would be better. Because:

1. I've played open world FPS like Crysis. While open world sounds cool, it end up being a flashy word to say, lack of structure to stories. And the gameplay doesn't really vary at all in an open world shooter game. I dare say, it has much less gameplay options than games like Metal Gear solid 4, which allows you to completely change the way you play the game.

2. Those day/night, weather stuff never alter gameplay too much in FPS whatsoever. they are just there to add a sense of realism and generate some buzz word for marketing.

3. The map editor will be cool, but resistance 2 will have 70 maps. That's just too big to be discounted. By the time poeple create great maps for far cry 2, far cry 3 or resistance 3 would be out of the door.

open world has nothing to do with the variety offered in a gameplay. Look at Metal gear 4, totally confined world, and you can swtich up play style completely as if it's two different games.

Look at crysis, it's just gunning poeple down, there's no variety whatsoever although that's an open world.

How many things you can in a game has nothing to do with open world or confined world actually. It only depends on the number of moves/weapons/situations set up by the developer. Open world however, gives you an illusion that you can do more. But in the end, those are just illusions.

Which game i prefer? i don't even own one of them. How can i choose?

By guessing in which i think i will like in the future after i finished both?

What i can vote on is that i liked Resistance (1) story more then the Far cry (1) story.

Far Cry 2 looks similar. The open world allows you to pick any strategy you want for the missions. If you have to rescue a hostage in a village, you can snipe a guard to draw attention, then run around the side. Or you can start a fire, and when the guards come to investigate, you blow them all up. Or you can drive a vehicle straight through, and gun everyone down.

In Resistance 2, your options are:

A) Shoot everone

B) See option A.

It looks like a good game, but it is very linear, and the linearity limits its options.
