I'm interested on people's thoughts on this. I used to have a Xbox, and played Halo as it was highly regarded as the game on the xbox (still is). However, coming from a PC background, I found it one of the most boring and repetative FPS ever and think it is highly overatted.

Now resistance is in a similar position as it is a launch title for a new console (as was Halo), and I feel that Resistance is a better FPS than Halo by far. The AI is great, with enemy's taking cover and working together, the graphics are great (perhaps shoulden't compare graphics of this and last gen), the vehicle's within single player handle a hell of a lot better, and the story more original (i like how its set in the 50's but is Sci-Fi, it's a mix of COD in some areas and then Half-Life / Halo in others.), and it is more challenging.

I know I am likely to get a biased opinion here, but it will just get ripped to shred's if posted within system wars. What do PS3 and Xbox (or ex-Xbox, like me) owners think?

Both good its hard to choose. Even though i stick to sony im going to have to go with Halo. I dislike the health system in Resistance, and some other minor problems.

I think Resistance is hands down better. Halo got so much hype on the original Xbox because it was really, at the time the best game xbox gamers had at the time, by the time Halo 2 came out the fans needed their fix. Halo was better than Halo 2, however they were both pretty weak when it came to story. It lacked a lot. Resistance on the other hand, great game. It has a superior story, superior weapons, superior characters, superior enemies. The one thing I can say about Halo that beat Resistance was its online play. Sure Resistance has 40 people online but sometimes it gets really chaotic. I liked the good old 4v4 on Halo 2. Honestly though, I play much more Resistance than Halo.

I also think Resistance is way better than Halo.  Halo does have great multiplayer, but so does Resistance.  The factor to determine the winner for me by far is the single or co op campaign.  That is amazing!

So, coming from PC gaming you think that Halo is a repetitive FPS, but Resistance isn't?

Halo was great, Halo 2 was good, Halo 3 is more than likely going to be great for a console FPS.

Resistance was good and they definitely have something to build on, but it definitely could've been better for a next-gen game.

I like Resistance better. I've played Halo 2 at my friends house and I don't find it that great. Maybe its because its a few years old but stil... The graphics of Resstance are obviously superior. One thing I really like a lot better about Resistance is the number of players and sizes of the maps. In Halo 2 the max is 16 players per map and 4 on 4 is very common. In Resistance 4 on 4 is small and most of the time you play with around 20 people, with the max being 40 people. I also find the weapons of Resistance much bettter and (this may sound odd) less weird. Also in Halo you seem to reheal to quickly. IMO there are other small things online like the sprint button or the fact that there is 2 seperate species with 2 seperate powers.

I first played Halo in co-op on a friends XBox and it was pretty good. But then I tried to play it again solo and it was, exactly like you said, boring and repetitive. What made Halo good was the fact that there was nothing better on consoles at the time. I still don't understand how the pc version could get a 9.0 on GS though, I mean the competition is just levels above it in both single and multi player. Now for Resistance, there's no doubt it's a better game than Halo was if you compare them side by side (not comparing graphics). The game is longer, has a better level and mission design, online multi player for 40 people, more diverse weapons,... But the thing is, there now is a lot more competition than there was back when Halo was released and Resistance doesn't do enough to distinguish itself from the rest.

Well Resistance is obviously going to be better because its on a next generation console. If your going to compare halo to something it should be killzone 1 on the ps2. And you should compare  Resistance to Halo 3 when its out because they are actually both on next generation consoles.:)

Resistence is no doubt better than halo 2. But halo 3 is a whole different ball game. So in other words they can make a resisten 6 and halo 3 will still hit the homerun. And im not a fanboy im a prophet bringing the future to you now, but you knew that right?

I've played the first two Halos and although I enjoyed them, I felt that they were over rated. I would chose Resistance over Halo, NOT because it's next gen or better graphics, but because of the intensity of the A.I and the story (c'mon did no one else find Halo2s story a bit whack?). However I'd still take Gears of War over the both of them anyday.

Halo 2 came out years ago, and people are still trying to find games that are better than it, even in the next generation of console.  And besides, Halo became popular because of the intense multiplayer, not simply because of the campaign, which admittedly gets a little boring and comes to an abrupted ending.  Halo set a new standard for console fps and console online gaming, which have set an expectation for games in this genre.

From what I played of FOM, everything seems very good and well-rounded, but it really hasn't broken the mold or set an new expections.  Anyway, i think a better comparison will be when halo 3 comes out, or compare it to GeOW.
