I'm planning on getting a new RPG but I can't decide which one to get. Which one do you consider better and why. What are the pros and cons of each. thanks

Well presentation wise, FFXIII kills RoF, but other than that they are kinda even, and FFXIII is too linear, but still fun.

i own both. i would recomend ff13 over rof. FF13 has a better story and characters while rof's characters and story are ok. yes ff13 may be linair but its still an amazing experience because the battles, graphics and characters make a great overall presentation. Rof story is funny and has a unique and great battle system, but even someone like me ,who loves rpgs, it can be very difficult even fustrating. think of it as star ocean and demon souls had a baby. that being said they are both overall good games but ff13 should be your best bet. Maybe some other time you can pick up rof after your done with ff13.

I have played RoF at a friends house, and own FF XIII with over 100 hours playtime. I'd have to say, RoF and FF are probably even in terms of enjoyment. In all honesty, I prefer Final Fantasy but RoF is still great. Final Fantasy employs a tactical battle system, real time and turn based events. It's very strategic.

Well, I think FFXIII's battls system is the best that I've ever seen in a straight-up RPG. It may seem automated, but there's so much strategy and you really have to think ahead of time and plan the fight out, to an extent. RoF looks great too, heard it's a major challenge and that the battle system is really cool, though has a steep learning curve. Apparently, the game just throws you every available battle mechanic at once without a proper tutorial or transition system in place, and you gotta kinda figure it out as you go, which might suck seeing as that the battles are apparently not lacking for difficulty. I'd get FFXIII, but definitely make your next purchase RoF.
