i dont need the rating, but i do want to read the review to clear some of the questions i have about the game (late game grinding, inconsistently paced storyline, just how complex the battle system is, etc)

No the real question is why these people NEED a review from gamespot's review crew. Seriously just go and read some user reviews or something. In fact let me help you out. Here are the user reviews.

It seems to be getting solid reviews from users (haven't read any, just the average score) and got a couple of 8's from review sites. So it at least looks solid. Waiting on GS just to read the review, see the pros and cons.

All we have from Gamespot is two player reviews and a massive FFXIII vs ROF fanboy fight in the game's forums. I need some better quality info.

I hear ya! I am worried that the problem is the devs wanted them to wait to review it (or just gave them the game later) because they think the score may not be up to gamers expectations. It seems like a solid game, at least an 8. I have my problems with what has been shown so far, but I think if the game gets an 8.5 or higher I would buy it over FFXIII.
Gametrailers has a video review up, and the game looks awesome. They give it a 7.9, but the review praises the game on many things. The story is the only thing they seemed bummed about.

What happened to all the amazing JRPG's of last gen? Many people would disagree, but I would love another Baten Kaitos (although on ps3 or pc lol).

:P Yeah, poor story is a big downer for an RPG, but that never stopped Fallout 3, did it? Its a mission based game, so I think they try focusing more on the individual chapters and missions than an overall agenda. That probably wasn't a good idea. Anyway, I'd like to know what happened to all the good RPGs of last gen AND the gen before that. PSP seems to be getting plenty, but I think its because the big story makers don't want to be bothered with new gen development.
