R1 was my life for a year after I got a launch PS3, I loved it. But when I go back to it now it just doesn't stack up compared to other games out there. However, I am convinced the boys from Insomniac will deliver with R2, I think it will be a GOTY contender

Agreed. The story drags on way too long and the gameplay is very repetitive. I doubt I will get R2, mainly due to other titles coming out during the time that appeal to me more.

i think that if i had played it when it first came out it would've been better for me. i played after cod4 and then read all the reviews about it being so great. i think it was most of the hype that killed it for me. i hate hype sometimes.

like many launch games, it hasnt aged well. it was made more like a last gen fps. but if you played it at launch, it wouldve been more impressive. though the pacing in r:fom is better than many fps's that have been released since then.

it was the best launch game, but in comparison to other FPS's, it really doesnt compare, but i still had a great time online and the story was pretty good.

Im expecting alot more out of R2. An american setting (hooray, no more issues with the Brits!), SIXTY PLAYER ONLINE (WITH 70 MAPS), and online co-op will be pretty sweet. it looks astounding, to say the least.

Resistance was the first and only game ever capable of capturing my attention for over a year straight. I'm in my 30's and I haven't enjoyed playing a single game as much as Resistance since Missile Command on my Atari 2600 (back in 1980 before games had story lines). Anyone who thought the story was lacking was skipping the cinematics and just playing through the game.

Exactly. At launch there really wasn't that great of a selection. Resistance was the saving grace. Everything else that came out around then was mediocre at best IMO.

Personally i thought it was a very good game. Yeah the story was good but was not told quite as solid a it could have been. But the online took a step even the Xbox 360 had never seen with a massive 40 player online. I think this time around Insomanic games has worked and solved all the things users would have liked to had in Resistance Fall of Man.

I never thought much of this game either. Looks good, but what FPS these days don't? Story is bland, as was said. I never liked the multiplayer either. Not many seemed to play online.

I bet the next installment will be better.

I thought the gameplay was very well done, but not groundbreaking or anything. The story was lousy, and the environments got kinda boring to me after a while.

I agree with you. I played the demo and the game had fairly good graphics but nothing was mind blowing thats for sure. I can't see myself buying R2 either seeing as Far Cry 2 looks like it will be the superior game. Also, I don't like the really old weapons in the game on the man side like old machine gun.

I never skipped a cutscene and I still found the story to be lacking. But I guess the general idea of the game just doesn't work for me. I am glad people did enjoy it though, that is what games are for. I paid $30 (Australian) for it in a deal with my PS3 and for that much, it was worth it.

There's probably not a single thing about Resistance: Fall of Man that I could complain about. If anything, my only minor gripe would be that the story-telling could have been better, but they definitely fixed that for R2. I've had R1 since January of 2007, and I still play it now from time to time, and I still fully enjoy it.

I also didn't find it to be all that impressive, I had to force my way through. To be fair though, I did play it over a year after it came out, and I can't truly judge the graphics since I don't have and HDTV....yet.

I think my history of PC gaming has just ruined all potential console shooters for me. I don't think they'll ever stack up.

The online was good but everything else was pretty dire in my eyes. You start off thinking wow this is incredible until you find yourself doing the same thing over and over. Story was bad. Graphics were good but the art was boring. The weapons and enemies were the best thing about it though.

I like it, I only bought it a month ago and I still thought it was great. Its a launch title so you have to few it through that point of view. Its nothing revolutionary now but then it was something. Its still a small step up from last gen and I'm hoping a few control issues are resolved for R2, mainly R3 being the button to aim down the sights of your gun. After playing any of the CoD games its hard to use R3 to zoom anymore when L1 or Left Trigger depending on your console preference is much more intuitive and comfortable to use. I have to many issues with accidently looking down the sights in a frantic up close fire fight to really like the control layout.

But I thought the story was told great, its not Shakespeare nor MGS for that matter so it doesn't have to be amazing. I like the way the story was told through WWII shooter style still picture scenes. I thought it was actually hilarious because WW2 games those cutscenes are always so bland and boring but the alternate history take on it was pretty fresh.

Funny how you target the only thing it was lacking.

RFOM -multiplayer good (40players w/ all of the things I am about to mention)

weapons good

textures and modeling good

gameplay good

Ai good (enough)

I agree with everyone else, with the PS3 launch it was the only game that was good
It had next gen graphics, this includes the cutscenes since many games back then still (and many today) use 480p cutscenes because of being on PS2 etc. You can tell when you see them because the regular gameplay looks better than the cutscene.

I should add too that if you play the game now of course you would feel disappointed, this game has been hyped and has also been out for years (Nov 2006). I'm not saying you are subject to this but sometimes when people get hyped about a game (or movie) and it doesn't meet their expectation, they become disappointed.

Anyway that's your opinion and that was my 2 cents.

It got amazing reviews on the PS3. Hell.....Game Informer couldn't decide who to give their Game of the Month honors to....it was between Gears of War and Resistance Fall of Man during their release so they came to a unanomous decision and awarded both games even though Gears was a bigger game but I preffered RFOM so its still an awsome game.

RahKayne

I agree with you saying that if you listen to all the hype and are getting into it now, you would feel very disappointed. I just recently picked up the greatest hits version and am playing it to get ready for R2. It was sort of a let down for me, since reading through alot of game sites they swear that this is the best game ever.

It's not a bad game, nor a crappy game, it's a good game and you have to give it credit for what it is. I am sure at launch this game was great, since ps3 had limited launch titles. But now with all these other games coming out, and having come out since then, it may feel mediocore. It's not, at all. After trying to erase all the hype that was associated with the game, I have come to appreciate it and enjoy it as well. The multiplayer is insane, and the actual game is improving with every level I beat.

After playing RFOM (and beating it soon!) I sort of amped for R2!

Me being one :E Resistance is a great FPS experience. Insomniac did great with the weapon design as well. If anything I found CoD4 over rated. Resistance is great. Its a massive game even to this day if you ask me. The bad parts are it had to many dark settings through the middle of the game. Ted Price is a gamer & knows his stuff no doubt. If you ask me, Resistance 2 seems like a totally different experience. Much greater. I'd say mainly because Hale escapes all that dark sh*t & gets more bada$$ with his virus. But the story is great for R2 compared to R1( From the scale & crises perspective)

You can change the controller layout for each action. Just go to options and controller and scroll through them. :) I'm 1 chapter from finishing it and I got it about 3 weeks ago. And I've enjoyed it very much so. Just most people aren't patient enough cause after chapter 4 I think the game really takes off.

Definitly looking forward to R2 now after playing the first one.

Maybe it is slightly dated but I had so much fun playing through the campaign co-op split screen with my friends that it makes up for any of the short comings. In fact it is the only shooter that is any fun at all to play co-op with.

On a slightly different note it is sad that the main story of R2 will not be available for co-op play.

visually it is the best PS3 game I have played (I have MGS4 but I refuse to play it until I beat MGS3). Like others my main problem is the storytelling. It is set up right but told alllll wrong. The idea of an alternate path taken in the 50's is really promising but is told poorly. I am about 8 missions in and I am already thinking it is all the same. Also there seems to be little pacing, what FPS gives you a tank like 3 missions into the game? It was just something you drive for like literally 3 minutes and then you are done with it. It would be better if there was a build up to the tank, some foreshadowing or some feeling of achievement for finally being able to drive a tank.

If you want a good story, try Half-Life. I really appreciate it now that I've played RFoM. I cared about the characters and enjoyed facing the enemies even though they aren't as smart as RFoM. RFoM just seems like shoot shoot shoot... follow some soldiers... shoot shoot shoot... cutscene... rinse and repeat

sooooo, you think rfom is better than cod4? well to each his own i guess but thats like saying you enjoy tree bark more than pizza. cod4 is, imo, the best fps out there. and this comes from someone who has been playing fpss since doom and wolfenstien. on top of that, fps are all i pretty much play any more...
