I'm looking to buy Rock Band 2 for the PS3. Not having bought Rock Band, I will need to buy the bundle which includes the instruments. The Rock Band 2 video review says Rock Band and Guitar Hero instruments are compatible with Rock Band 2, but are the Rock Band 2 instruments compatible with Rock Band and Guitar Hero?

All of the instruments work just fine with the exception of the Guitar Hero drums working in Rock Band 1 or 2. I assume that's something they're gonna patch cuz not only was it promised to work, but apparently they work in the 360 version. I think Guitar Hero World Tour sucks personally, but I still wasted my money on it so I can't talk. Either way, the Rock Band drums work fine in Guitar Hero, except I can't get star power activated...

Oh, and in case you're wondering, Rock Band 2 is freaking incredible. You should definitely buy it.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just to make sure, the Rock Band 2 instruments DO work with the original Rock Band game, correct? If I decide to buy the original somewhere down the road, I won't want to buy all new instruments. I don't have that much space or money.

They should work just fine, I don't see why they wouldn't, I can't say I've honestly tried. What I did was the disk export, got basically all of the songs from Rock Band 1 onto my hard drive so I can play them in Rock Band 2. Probably the best idea ever. And in case you prefer to use Guitar Hero guitars like I do, you can use those in both Rock Band 1 and 2.

You will need some luck to get fully functional guitar hero drums, Rock Band instruments work well for both franchises. There's some advice on GH World Tour about the use of instruments that are not the ones from the game being illegal or something like that, but.. who cares

Careful of defective RB2 drums, I've heard alot about it recently. Either way, this might help ya.
