Its all a matter of opinion. If you're all about GH2 on Expert, you'll probably find Rock Band a little too easy. Rock Band takes the difficulty back to original GH level, but adds ALOT more. I love the drums, they were an awesome addition. For me, I will get ALOT more play time out of Rock Band because of the different instruments. Contrary to the other poster, I actually prefer the track list of Rock Band, especially the downloadable content that's out now (mainly because I'm a big Metallica fan).

they're set up fairly similarly.

in rock band you can play through guitar, drums and vocals if you like.

rock band eschews encore songs and just gives you all 5 tracks at once, but it also has you unlock bonus songs by playing each one to unlock the next, thus giving you a reason to actually play those songs (to get to timmy and the lords of the underworld).

the guitar is not as mind numbingly difficult even on expert, which could upset guitar hero experts, but I'm okay with it. drums are something completely different, and pretty rad, and vocals really depends on your range.

rock band solo tour is like GH1, 2, and 80s in that it has no real story, just locations and songs. when you clear them all you get a 25 minute credits sequence and for every song you unlock clothing or equipment to customize your character. thats another thing, character custimization is much much better.

anyways, if all you want to do is shred guitar, guitar hero III is all about it, but rock band has a lot more going on.

it depends ...

if i was the father of 2 or 3 kids, i would have bought rock band RIGHT AWAY at the moment it came out ... but since i,m only 18, and i'm not going along too well with my brother, buying rock band won't give me all the pleasure "such a multiplayer game" should have given me

so i bought guitar hero 3, and it's really good (but it's incredibly hard ... it's my first guitar hero game, so i'm having an hard time on the Hard difficulty)

I say Rock Band. Only because of the drums, which I suck at but are so freaking addicting!
