Lately I have been trying very hard to expand my genre of gaming and add in RPG's. I really like ME2 and will probably get ME3. I have and like Demons Souls but it's too unforgiving for me. Really enjoyed Borderlands and will get Borderlands 2. I own and have tried both Fallouts and they are both boring IMO. But I am starting to realize I only like RPG's that are more action orientated. So Skyrim is coming out soon. Looks amazing but I am scared try it. Can you guys name old or upcoming RPG games that might suit me? Anyone else out there like me. Thanks. Sorry if this sounds like a recommendation thread.

I have recently started playing Oblivion and I am enjoyin it, Just remember that a RPG just is that it will start, slow and get more in detailed as you play. Another good RPG in a way Assasins Creed Series. Hope this helps!

Honestly man, Skyrim won't be fast paced. Probably not at all. There will be points in the game that will be, but not really many of them if past Elder Scrolls titles are any indication.

The problem with RPG's as a genre is that they are typically pretty slow paced.

Skyrim. It's the epitome of an RPG, albeit a Western RPG, and it's a lot prettier than Oblivion too :P

You shan't regret it!

Try Dragon Age Origins... it is probably less than $20 now. It has some good action but like Mass Effect, the main part of the game is the deep story and dialogue. It's one of the best games out there IMO.

Try Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and both Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age II. Mass Effect 3 is out in March 2012. FFX HD version is coming soon.

OMG, you're exactly like me. The RPG games that liked was ME2, Borderlands and Demon's Souls, but thought Fallout 3 is boring.

one bioshock and assassis creed are both not rpgs. it like say rachet and clank is. bioshock is shooter, assassins creed is an action adventure game and rachet and clank is an action game. But if you want a good rpg if you have playstation 3 you can download all the final fantasys from 7 to 9. You can even get chrono trigger and chrono cross. They even have breath of fire 4. If you have a xbox final fantasy 13, blue dragon, tales of vesperia are really go rpgs. But if you want more action rpgs the fable series are really good fabel 3 is on the xbox and pc.

Assassins Creed and Bioshock arent RPG's but I can see how one would want to say Bioshock is RPGish. But I own and have played both. My co-worker was telling to bypass Dragon Age and go straight to Dragon Age 2.

I'm a big fan of many different RPGs, I don't think there was a single one posted that I haven't enjoyed at least somewhat, but if the pace is the problem for you, you're gonna have a real hard time getting into the genre. I would advise against most older(PS and PS2) RPGs, because they tend to be turn based combat, you need to really be in it for the story. More and more though, RPGs are becoming more action oriented, though I find the stories are starting to suffer a bit. If you liked ME2 and Borderlands and don't have an aversion to swords and magicks and monsters, then I would definitely recommend Dragon Age 2. It is a sequel, but you don't really miss out much by not having played the first, and it has a more actiony combat system, personally I preferred it to ME2, I jsut picked it up a couple weeks ago and I'm already starting to get bored of it, whereas with DA2, I played it until there wasn't any choice you could make that I haven't seen. Anyway, hope that helps, happy gamings!

I recommend to you for starters Deus Ex : HR and RAGE (rage doesn't have rpg mechanics but it has that strong "you are there" flavor.)

When you are ready for a full-blown RPG experience try Dragon Age.

Skyrim is....no offense but it's not going to be a barrel of monkies, it's going to be a very slow burn like Oblivion or Fallout. This is something you will eventually graduate to as you begin to appreciate RPG's more.

Other good stuff to try : FF13 and Alpha Protocol

Most people will disagree but to me Saints Row 3 will be the perfect "role players" game because of the immense amount of customization and open world. You don't HAVE to play it as a slapstick comedy, you can play it as a serious "I am an evil sob" rpg.

You would be much better off skipping the first DA if pacing is your concern. The second game has a much more fluid battle system and it is pretty action oriented, much more so than the first.

The funny thing is when I was younger I played the hell out of Pokemon which is turned based right? I'm not sure if Im still into it though. I like some Tower Defense Games too. So I guess I will Get DA2 and Maybe Alpha Protocol. Both are pretty cheap nowadays. Once I finish up all of these new releases this winter I am going to really try to put some true time into a RPG or two. Thanks fellas.

Well if you enjoy the action RPGs then I would say that Skyrim is not for you.
