Rumor: PS3 Firmware 3.00 and "a New PSN" August 18th?

So much things have been happening lately. I'll cross my fingers that at least one of them is true.:oops:

I really wonder what this "New PSN" could be.

Or if a FW 3.00 would have cross game invites/chat.

I know they aren't needed, but i would like it :P

Well i do think they will annouce a PS3 Slim and a cheaper PSP Go, as for a new FW/PSN, that i'm not sure

Im still confused as to why they are trying to revamp the PSN. Is it going to be like a face lift or an over-haul? I remember they said something about it on the Pulse episode.

they recently had a patent put on some software that can emulate the games hence the rumour of a up date

Haha August 18th would be the same day as my Final exam :P.. its good thing when im done ièll get to try the new update thats assumeing its coming at that date :)

We'll see, I like the current PSN, XMB the way it is but you never know what new visual or software changed could be added.

The only thing the ps3 needs to be bc is an emulator which would be considered software.

I hope this is all true. Also, I remembred them saying they had a "lot" of games that haven't been announced yet. I wonder if they're announcing any at the conference.

Not believing it because this is the type of thing people make 3,000 threads about when August 18th rolls around and there's no update people will just be like SONY LIED WHERES THE UPDATE!!!!

Do you think with the PS3 actually costing Sony a lot of money to make will create an emulator that will allow to play PS2 games on the PS3 AFTER they greatly reduced the price of a PS2?

I think it's inevitble that they will add software emulation for ps2, who knows when, but someday.

If this is true, it comes out the same day the new Wolfenstein game (not like any of you care lol).

Would be really nice/cool if those PSN/Firmware rumors are true, if at that conference they announce them and then be like "oh, by the way, now that we have announced it, just to let you know, its now live, enjoy" :D

If I'm not mistaken, the PSP Go hasn't even been released. Why would they have a price drop before the console has even hit shelves? And if I am mistaken and it has been released, why would they do it so soon after the launch? I could imagine a PSP Go with more or less memory, but that doesn't mean it would be a price drop. Just more models. The Slim wouldn't be a surprise, but I don't think anybody actually cares about it to be honest. We've all seen the pictures and it's ugly. Plus if you're on this board then you probably already have a PS3 anyway ;)

Nope. Emulation is through software. That's why you can download old NES or Gameboy emulators for the PC. Granted, an emulator for the PS2 would need to be a heck of a lot more powerful than an NES emulator. But hopefully Sony is working on a way to patch it in somehow. It could be available to purchase through the PSN or they might just wait 2-3 years for the PS2 to completely die or it might not even be coming at all. Who knows!?

I just don't believe anything I hear about Sony unless it really happens.

Next week of August is getting better and better this way. Maybe new PSN, 3.00 update and it's the week of Gamescon were the first actual gameplay footage of a nearly complete FIFA 1O will be shown and maybe even a FIFA 10 demo.

We speculate that it could have some premium features. There was talk a while back about a possible premium service where users pay one flat rate to access unlimited downloads (online gaming and all of it's features would still be free though). If the price were right, that's something that many could find very appealing. Hopefully this firmware 3.0 will also come with some of our most sought after features, like cross game voice chat, voice or video messaging, etc.

The above is from the interview linked by TC. I know this is just a rumour. Could Sony havebeen holding back cross game voice chat, voice and/or video messaging because they wanted to add it to their prmium service?

I hope it's backward compatabilty for PS2 games because my 60GB crashed and might have to get an 80 GB PS3, because most places no longer sell 60GB PS3's.

Anyone who still thinks all this buzz about a PS3 Slim/Price Drop is just a rumor needs to wake up and smell the daisies :). As someone who is holding off for a PS3 price drop, this is very good news :) :)

I don't believe this for one second, you guys are setting yourself up for major disappointment. No way is all these rumours are gonna be true, not all.
