http://kotaku.com/gaming/warhawk/rumor-smash-warhawk-download-only-239025.php Since Lair's TGS videos sorely disappointed me, I've turned to Warhawk to sate my hunger for a good flying game. :) And I loved the original, so I REALLY don't want this game to degenerate into a multiplayer-only game.

Meh, we'll see.  I live in Salt Lake City, so maybe I'll just run down the street and ask them "WTF?" :D

As soon as I heard they were putting FPS levels into Warhawk to "break up the flying" I lost interest. It seems odd they would bring back the franchise and then totally bastardize it by making it a hybrid-FPS...

No, not really. It's been a long time since I played it, but I absolutely loved the original Warhawk. That and Starfox 64 were among my favorite games on that generation.

You obviously didn't play the original... Either way, why would flying and shooting be less fun than running and shooting?

Well, to be fair, when you're running and shooting it's a lot more personal and literally more "in your face." Like in RFOM, where monsters can leap onto you and start slashing and gnashing their teeth in your face. Can't do that with a flight sim.

No i didnt,   and i think i spoke to soon,   I can see how warhawk would be very fun if it was a big dog fight with alot of ppl, like in  Starwars Battlefront 2 on the levels with the ships, i really enjoyed that.

Not everyone wants a FPS, Warhawk is a FLYING game, yeah they added a few new vehicles and that will add to some of the fun but addign full on FPS levels? that sucks, if I wanted to "break up the flying" I'd turn it off and go play another damn game.

Exactly what I felt, especillay because them ground combat seemed to have no solidfied purpose at all other than being there. IMO they should remove the ground aspect but still keep the fighting ground armies... do I make sense?

Yeah, to some extent...But having flying battles is no less intense than battles on the ground. My original point is that if they're gonna bring back an old IP from the dead, why mess with success? Having an FPS is one thing, having a flying game is another...Mixing them might work, but why use the Warhawk name to cash in on it? It's unnecessary for them to do that, and it's kind of a cheap shot to fans of the original.

I dissagree about removing ground combat only to a certain degree. I like the idea if getting out of the ship but they're not going about it correctly. I mean think back to Blaster master and how fun it could be to get out of your nearly indistrcutable tank to fight on foot or to get around an obstruction. they need to make getting out of the ship as fun as being IN the ship and a FPS mechanic isnt the way to do it.

I think it's pretty much confirmed now. check out this

"What Warhawk has apparently evolved into is a multiplayer-only title featuring ground and air combat that'll be downloadable from PSN. That's definitely not the Warhawk experience I'd imagined when I first saw the trailer two years ago."

I'm not a big fan of FPS, so When i heard that Warhawk developers were going to put FPS levels in the game, I lost some Hype. I'm sticking with Lair.

Damnnation! This was one of those titles that was really pushing me towards buying a PS3! I don't want an online-only game. Although I certainly wouldn't be opposed to the game being sold over the PSN network in chunks. For example, it's a war and in war, there are different campaigns. I wouldn't mind paying, I don't know, $20 for the base game and the initial campaign, with additional campaigns costing extra money (campaigns wouldn't have to be very long). But online-only is a waste.

I wouldn't mind online only, as all I would be interested in this game is for air plane fights online.

Yeah I agree I think a TPS (3rd person shooter) would be better, but from the early looks of Warhawk the ground fighting looked kinda lame and the graphics were really cartoony.

Yeah, you mean just have a ground war going on but don't actually have the player participate in it (except for raining down some air support). When I first heard that they were adding the ground aspect, it made me think that they weren't confident about the flying mechanics/gameplay.

heres the problem you are basing your info on rumors from kotaku and 1up.com... that one on 1up.com was from a blog.... any OFFICIAL info he heard he can't tell because of non-disclosure he mentioned... he will find out soon but won't know until GDC.... wait until GDC to make an opinion....

I was about to say the same thing. People buy flying games to fly, not get out and hoof it on foot. I remember playing Starfox 64 and Crimson Skies. There was never a moment where I said "man I wish I could get out the plane an shoot that guy" instead of maneuvering around and blowing him up.

I'd wait until we hear more about the game from Incognito before suddenly rallying behind one answer.

On another note, I don't really understand the hatred towards the ground combat being added in Warhawk, I'm a huge fan of the original, but I like the battlefront-esque approach that they are taking, because it just adds another level of gameplay to what has been looking to be a great game.

As long as they make the ground combat more interesting that the videos I've seen, then I'll agree.

Same here, I didn't like the ground videos they looked too cartoony and the game didn't really look that next gen and the way he moved and the weapons seemed kinda lame.

Thanks, it's good to know that I make sense from time to time. :D And I agree the lad battles seem more like a last second adition.

Agreed, my biggest issue with the ground fighting is that it seems utterly pointless, why would one leave the plane? :? Surely one would be a lot better assistance from the air. The the 3'rd person gameplay needs a purpose like having to enter a building, a bunker or one of those gigantic enemy mother-ships, arease where the Warhawk is no use. Also I'd have liked to be a part of a squadeon both on ground and in air instead of playing the lone wolf. Maybe being part of a huge air battle with a simultanious ground battle. The E3 '05 video made me think that one was part of that huge fleet. :(
