80GB to be axleto be replaced by 120/160GB with DS3 included
According to tech news site 'Ars Technica's Opposable Thumbs,' the folks who originally announced the 40GB PS3, Sony has discontinued their 80GB console to prepare for the release of an even bigger version.
According to Ars Technica, the Blu-Ray enabled hi-def console will be available in two configurations in the future: the 40GB $399 version already in stores, and either a 120GB or 160GB model, most likely backwards compatible.
The new unit will come with Sony's new rumble Dual Shock 3 controller which will replace the standard sixaxis that comes packaged with the 80GB.
The website didn't offer an approximate release date for Japan or the US, but the phasing out of 80GB consoles in North America might suggest a simultaneous launch in both continents.
