Hi im gonna buy a ps3 soon becasue im sick and tired of my other systems breaking down all the time. Now im worried though becasue im hearing about alot of problems with the ps3 lately. Such as the can't read any disc errors on the 40gb and 80gb systems. Now im wondering if i should buy one or not because im trying to get away from all the system breakage with the ps3 and it might cause even more pain if my ps3 breaks.

Now do you guys think the ps3 is a reliable system? Ive been hearing about broken 40gb and 80gb lately even from the official playstation forums. http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board?board.id=ps3&page=1

Has anyone had to send their ps3 for repairs? If you vote in the poll please provide accurate information

thx everyone!

electronics fail...it happens....it's the nature of the beast...but PS3's failure rate is WAY lower than that of the 360...I have a 60Gb system, so I can't speak to the specifics of the 40 and 80Gb systems but my 60Gb system is still working with no hiccups thus far (fingers crossed)...I say go for it and purchase some sort of warentee to be on the safe side...

Polls have been screwy for a while now, so we can't vote in it. I've had my 60 gb since March, and it's been spot on. It's frozen on me maybe three times in 10 months, which I don't think is bad at all.

My first PS3 broke, because of a faulty Blu-ray drive, but its been smooth sailing on the replacement.

how long did the repairs take? With my OTHER system it took me about 6 weeks, and it came back with the same problem.

I bought the Best Buy PRP (Product Replacement Plan), so I just took it to the store and switched it out for a brand spankin' new console.

Oh darn, here in Canada they used to have the replacement plan but now they only have the service plan. With the service plan you are forced to send it in. btw how much was the plan?

I'm pretty sure it was $59.99.

No. Not a single flaw in my PS3. It's even a launch day 60GB PS3, too.

Same here and I'm a North American launchday owner.I use my ps3 for more then just gaming...it's also used for Bluray, Web Browsing(SOMETIMES) music listening, folding home, Music & Video streaming. I 've pretty well much have pushed my ps3 to it's limits and have not had any issues(SO FAR) LOL...

Nope, never needed to - I have the 60gb model and it works perfectly. Play it a lot, and if I'm not playing I set it to folding@home. It's on almost all the time although I do give it a break every so often. Make sure you give it some room, you want the vents clear
