Like finding hidden packages in GTA. Feathers in Assassins Creed and the like. Find 100 of something randomly scattered around the city.

When trophies/achievements weren't figured in, I actually used to feel rewarded for it in most games I played. It would unlock some game feature or add something somewhere that I didn't have before. But in recent games there seems to be no reason to go for them other than to get that trophy. Assassin's Creed 2 gave some new cape or something, game changing... and as I'm going through finding all the gold film reels for LA Noire I'm thinking to myself I'm going to get nothing after all this, it's just that it is the only trophy I need for a platinum and I can practically warp to the locations. Same for AC2 but I just couldn't bother.

Does anybody actually find searching for these things fun? Or are they just something tedious to stretch the game life?

Sometimes I do enjoy them, sometimes not. GTA IV for example was boring so I didn't even bother, Assassin's Creed 2 however was pretty fun to do.

I generally enjoy them, especially if there is a trophy or an ingame reward for doing them. If there is not an ingame reward or trophy, however, then there is nothing there to compel me, and I may be more reluctant in hunting, but most likely will still do it just to flesh out the game experience.

I can say I really enjoyed hunting them in GTA Vice City and San Andreas, you'd find the items in some bizarre places like on top of a pyramid. And to have something new spawn at my garage for every 10 items felt really rewarding. In the end I got Harriers or Apache's spawning for me so great incentive to go all the way.

It's just that for most games I've played this gen, I have rarely seen where a nice in game reward would come of it.

as long as they aren't too crazy out of the way, or too many of them, then it's not too bad. i wouldn't be upset if games would just let that trend die tho

Depends. I actually found all the goddamn feathers in AC2 because I loved the game so much (and platforming is fun).

The only one I disagree about is inFamous because finding them actually isn't that hard (unless you are trying to get every one) and they give you power cores.
