Are the series like Metal Gear Solid, Resistance, Final Fantasy, ect... Enjoyable and Understandable if you don't play the previous ones? Or do you need to play the previous ones? Because for example MGS1,2,3 aren't for the ps3.

Resitance: No need to play previous games
Final Fantasy: EAch Final Fantasy has a different cast, story, world, etc. (There are some exception like Final Fantasy X-2)
Metal Gear Solid: Hmmmm..I think this one..you should play the prevous games...cause they often talk about the past(Ex. In MGS 2..they talk a lot about the events in MGS 1)
Final Fantasy you'll be perfectly fine without having played any of the others (although I recommend them highly). Each of the FF games in the main series (VII, VIII etc) are separate. Different stories, different characters, different universes. There are some FF games that are sequels like FFX-2 and some of the other spin-offs.
Resistance, it would help to play Resistance 1 but you don't have to, if you have a basic understanding of what happens though it will make R2 more enjoyable.
Metal Gear SOlid is very heavy on story, as in, there is a lot of it. However I played Metal Gear Solid 4 and understood most of it, having only played MGS1 before. But playing all of them will help. I'm not sure how much MGS2 and MGS3 refer to previous games though, hopefully someone else can answer that.
