I agree with you, but there was another thread made about this same issue earlier today. Which is why I'm not gonna elaborate on why I'm agreeing with you, because I did so in the other thread.
Now think of it from a devs point of view - FPS = easy to make, they are linear, don't have too many cutscenes, and can focus mainly on online, then if their online suceeds, they can throw some crap maps and sell them for even more money off of the game.

It was just 2007 that was FPS heavy. There's probably the same amount this year, but devs have taken the training wheels off and are ready to make other genres. Only thing I can see PS3 lacking is RPGs, atleast on the exclusive side.
We don't necessarily need less FPS, but what we do need is more variety. There are a lot of certain genres, but not enough of others. The PS2 had something to suit everyone, but the PS3 is currently far from that standard.

Right... Such as platformers, for example. Only 4 of those and Ratchet & Clank is the only good one.(In my opinion.)

My thoughts exactly. I really enjoy a good FPS, but that's not to say I don't enjoy a little variety too)I say keep on coming with great the FPS games, but I wouldn't mind a great puzzle game or another top-class platformer to complement it.
I agree, they need more oblivion like games or uncharted and heavenly sword like games they are both awesome and there need to be a lot more games with a really compelling story line instead of shoot the bad guys and keep the world from being over come by evil.
I personally would love another Survival Horror game. And not to focus on action! Back in the good resident evil days, or silent hill 2 and 3 where you killed everything with a lead pipe just to save amo haha.
Also a good adventure game, something that makes you feel like youve traveled a long ways and makes it feel epic! Like Shadows of the Colossus did for me.
Ya i agree, killzone 2, socom, and resistance are going to be great and i will for sure buy them. Maybe battlefield. But besides that all those other shooters are going to be a waste of time. The developers should be focusing on other types of games. There not going to compete with those shooters anyway. COD4 is great tho. And whatever company makes another WW2 shooter, well im going to boycout all the games they make, everyone else should do the same till they get the picture

I like really good FPS here and there but they're almost comming out on a weekly basis and thats all this gen. Most of them aren't even good enough to warrent a playthrough. I'd like to see more action/rpg titles myself

I 100% agree. I need a good current gen Survival Horror title, the closest we have so far are horror shooters like Jericho. Luckily theres Condemned 2, Alone In The Dark, Dead Space and Silent Hill V to fill that void this year.
i was one of the original people to post this type of topic, im glad u got more support then me tho. Neways I agree 100% of the way with u. FPS are left and rite, that goes along with third person shooters it is one of the most commercialized genres in the industry rite now. I can wait until games go back in the PS2 days and have something suited for everyone, for example I have both X360 and P3 but to me that Xbox has not a lot of variety so it doesn't appeal to me as much as my Ps3 does. ritenow for me being a gamer suxs this year i feel like it will all change though
I really don't mind FPS. They are kind of hit and miss for me. I think some of the developers really need to lay off the WWII FPS though, that was the last "good" war that America really won but the rest of the world is STILL trying to forget. I mean there is only so many times that a single American GI can single handly defeat the ENTIRE German army before it gets a little old. But those are just some of my thoughts.
if you want the shooter gimmick to end then stop buying them. in 2 or 3 years they will b old news again. all it takes is a record breaking fantastic game like halo to set the scene. before the xbox ever came out, rpgs were too many and plentiful. just wait for that one game that will make people bored with their old gimmicky mechanics and move on to a different fad.

I wouldn't mind a Parasite Eve 3, personally. Parasite Eve (1) was one of my favorite games for the PS(1). Parasite Eve 2 was decent enough, i guess. But another one along the lines of, er, one, with some updated graphics would be just stellar in my book.
I agree, the consoles need to have more of other genres. If the PS3 can break that curse soon it'll make its comeback, and also thats why the 360 is doomed to fall eventually, their whole lineup of games are FPS's and EA sports games, which are crap. Btw, most people who post here about how much they love their FPS's mostly suck at the games.
I don't think it's really a question of quantity. It's a question of quality. I would reword it: Developers need to stop making so many mediocre fps or other genre games. Doesn't matter the system.
Yeah, I'm getting extremely tired and bored of FPS games to be honest, that's all that came out last year, ok I'm exaggerating a little bit, but still.
I agree, but we also need less whining. my game collection includes no first person shooters, and I'm still pretty satisfied with my PS3. I have Warhawk, but I bought it to fly jets around not shoot fools.

I agree, but there's a reason for all of the FPS's being released. It's pretty damn expensive now to develop next-gen games, and it's good possibility of making profit from an FPS title over other titles because FPS are so popular right now.
I'VE BEEN SAYING THAT FROM THE START.........TIRED OF FPS...........I NEED OPEN FIELDS AND LOTS OF CHARACTERS AND QUESTS .........I MEAN COME ON FF13 OR WHITE KNIGHT STORY......ACTION GAMES ARE COMMING N2 THEIR OWN AGAIN, THERE IS ONLY ONE RACING GAME (GRAN TURISMO), BUT RPG AND ADVENTURE AREN'T HERE..........YET.........IT JUST TAKES WAYYYY LONGER TO DEVLOP THESE GAMES......I KNOW THIS BUT I'M READY FOR THESE GAMES TO GET HERE!!!!!!!!
