I owned a Xbox 360 for a few years but recently sold it. I am leaning heavily towards getting a ps3, but I have a few questions. I have seen that lag can be an issue. Also that PSN isn't as good as Xbox Live. So here it is. 1. Is lag a common issue or not a big deal. 2. Is PSN good enough to compete with Live. 3. And finally, what is one major tipping point for you in the PS3's favor. Thank you for the help.

Lag is game based. Black Ops has lag for example. But exclusives like Killzone typically have very low lag. Ive had nothing but good times with Far Cry 3 online too. PSN is good enough to compete with live, just depends on the game played. Gotta remember, some developers hate developing for ps3 and favor 360 for some unknown reasons.

But the tipping points are: Free online gaming, free online web browsing, built in rechargable battery pack in dualshock remotes (no more buying batteries!!), apps like netflix and hulu cost a lot less on ps3, more durable system (dont know about the 360 slim tho), great exclusives, blu ray movies look very sharp on a HD tv, game sharing (only 2 systems total now). Did I mention online things are free? Yep. No paying greedy microsoft yearly money to be able to use a system the way it was meant to be played.

PSN or XBL don't host any game servers, so it's completely irrelevant. Tipping point? Exclusives I guess? Honestly I don't think it's really necessary to own both consoles, but you will have a lot of cool games that aren't on X360 to play.

Is lag a common issue or not a big deal- The basic ways most console games work now is by making 1 player the host and everyone joins that game. This means you'll get no more or less lagg than the 360.

Is PSN good enough to compete with Live -The only thing Live has over PSN is Party chat. The PS3 version lacks that but is free. Another thing the X-box does better is updating games but you only have to do that once when you get it and in the rare case updates are released.

And finally, what is one major tipping point for you in the PS3's favor -Free online, PS+ if you wish to use it, A really good section of old PS exclusives if you have never played them before.

You could be. :P

1. Lag depends on your Internet Connection mostly, very rarely will it be server based.

2. PSN had come a long way since it was announced, you still get to play online for free. Look into PlayStation+ then decide if you wish to spend extra money for the goodies.

3. Major point for me was the Blu-ray player since I'm not only a movie enthusiast but also enjoy my movies at highest quality which Blu-ray offers. Another tipping point would be previous generation titles from PS1 and PS2 that are also on PS3, as example, God of War series, Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Solid to name a few.

Hope that helps.

-Only serious lag I remember was with the Battlefield Bad Company 2 launch day, but that was just a server overload on EA's side. Besides that my experiences only have been lagfree. -I don't own a 360 with xbl, so I can't really comment on that. All the basic feautures are there on the PSN, friendlist, chat, messaging, game invites, achievement comparing, a store (which is a bit unpelasant to navigate), avatar, profile etc. - Exclusives exclusives exclusives. And I prefer the controller. MGS4, Demon Souls, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5, 3D DOT Game Heroes, God of War, Resistance, Journey, Killzone, Uncharted, etc :)

My tipping point was Gran Turismo 5 (I have loved that series since it was released on the PS1...I have never played Forza though). There are games that run better on the 360 as far as I understand (again, it's not like I have done a side-by-side). I would go for the exclusives myself. About the only exclusive on the 360 that I had any interest in would be Metro 2033 (and with Last Light coming to both platforms that is going to be moot).

Seriously, I would just wait to see what announcements are made at this year's E3. I mean, if the PS4 ends up releasing you're better off saving for it. The way I see it there's no rush to buy a PS3 when we're so close to next gen already. If they don't announce anything then you can buy a PS3. But if I were you I'd hold off until at least E3.

PSN is equal to live minus cross game chat and invites. There is no lag while playing online. The online is free and makes it a better deal than Xlive. As long as you have an ISP that is 15Mb+ you will have as fast as connection as the PS Store will download and PS Store speed when browsing through it and playing online games you can have slower and there is no lag.

I wouldn't wait, because that's a long time away and Sony could likely announce it but not release it till March-Nov 2014 or later.

Also, if it's not backwards-compatible (as the PS3 was not with PS2 games), then there are a LOT of titles you will be missing out on. Not to mention that the new platform won't have much of a library.
