There isn't really a reason to get one for the PS3, as it doesn't have near the problems that the 360 once had with regard to overheating. I've had a 60GB PS3 since launch and (although I obviously can't speak for everone) I haven't had a problem with it hardware wise. Whatever the problem was with your previous PS3, I don't believe it was heat related.

Nah, I was concerned as we have just finished summer in Australia and my ps3 is in my room upstairs. For a while I had to play it in 30-38C heat , due to faulty air-con, which is like 3000F and had no problems.

I don't think you need one, I've left my system on overnight many times Folding, and never had a problem.

Good job, it's nice that people help out with Folding@Home. After all, it could help.

I think the cooling is a great upgrade for your PS3. I am looking into getting one for my PS3/ Sup Comp and if you are still considering it...go to Koolance.com....they have what you need. A couple good reasons for getting the watercooler are, keeps ps3 running alot cooler under the hood there by increasing performance, makes your PS3 "dead quiet", (even though its already about 50 times more quiet then the Box 360) it makes it more quiet b/c it lets your PS3 turn down the fans to about nothing b/c it doesnt need them to cool the CPU/GPU. READ IMPORTANT: IF YOU WANT TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR PS3 YOU NEED: WATERCOOLER, 7200rpm HDD, HDMI CORD, FULL HD 1080P TV....bam there you go...install linux and u got a SUP COMP.

I might get a cooling system for my PS3. Thanks for the advice about the HDD, when I upgrade my HDD I'll keep the 7200 RPM in mind...

The ps3 wouldn't need cooling fans. I bought that cheap ass one and according to everybody, they say that it traps heat in rather than help push it out. My external fan that was latched onto my PS3 started making noises.

But that water cooler thing is a different story but too expensive. In one of the posts, people say as long as the area around the PS3 is ventilated *not in cabinets or closed space* then your PS3 is fine.

There was an article a long time ago that said the 7200 rpm HDD didn't make much of a difference at all they said that it was more about the cache. I think it was on IGN.

The cooling solutions are a gimmick. That are going to do more harm than good. It'll suck all kind of dust into the system. If Sony makes some kind of PC ATX form Tower Case, That would be the best bet as far as cooling the system only.

If they (Sony) can make a case for PS3 like my PC case, an Antec 900, then you have a sufficient cooling system for a PS3. The PS3 is made to run warm-hot, all comp hardware is. The best way to cool the system, granted you have ac vents on the floor, is to position your setup where the ac vent is just under your tv stand/entertainment center. For smaller rooms, keep the door open, heat builds up quick in a small room.

I never turn my system off unless when it wants to do a restart after a update and the fan hardly ever goes over low speed, it does kick up to medium speed ever so often for a very short time. I have been F@H for several months now when it's not being used for anything else. As for those cooling systems there really is no need for them as long as air can flow through the system it's not going to overheat. There have been test on the internet where the console was played for x amount of hours in a sona with no problems and it was also tested the same way for extreme cold tempertures with no problems.

Don't buy one, because they really aren't needed, and, as pointed out already, they do more harm than good. Save your money and put it towards a game :) The PS3s cooling fan does a great job on its own.

F = (9/5)C+32

86F-100F=no problem for the PS3

Any cooling system for any console is a scam
