I really want to buy a ps3 because I have a crappy laptop and pc. I want to play new games. But soon ps3 won't be able to run new games. I can't afford a ps4. I can only afford a ps3. Help.

Why you shouldn´t ? by doing so you get:

1.- Free online

2.- A library with hundreds of games

3.- A cheaper system

4.- A system you can still enjoy for many years to come.

I do have PoS4, I do have several games for it and I haven´t touched it in weeks, as for my PS3, that one sees action almost daily.

I have a PS3 and have a PS4 on the way. The PS3 has free online, a crap load of cheap and good games, and will likely become a classic as the years pass. I think it's a good choice.

If you really want PS4, try saving up and/or getting more hours at work. I work 15-20 hours a week busing tables at a restaurant for $8/hour plus tips with the occasional dish washing shift that pays $11/hour. If I can buy a $400 console with that kind of work and pay, surely you can too. :)

For me the answer depends entirely on if you are in love with the back catalog.

Because if the answer is yes, then sure. It's got a big catalog of good old games to play.

If not, then the answer is no. Because it will not be getting many heavy hitters moving forward, online servers are already cut off for some of its online titles and others will surely follow. Its hardware is worse - the controller is far far worse. Its online connectivity is slower, navigating the store is like watching paint dry compared to the PS4...

The PS4 is simply better hardware with better (system) software. So - for me the PS3 is a great console, but it's a "retro console" of sorts for me, with service declining, development scaling back, and older design/hardware/software qualities that feel less up-to-date. I love my PS3 - don't get me wrong, but I'm using it less and less as time goes by.

Thank God I'm not the only one. It takes 96 centuries for it to load and even navigating it feels laggier than Skyrim, and that's saying a lot.

I would also say that Sony will do something with PlayStation Now to combat Microsoft's recent backwards compatibility announcement, perhaps even make it free (or give free credits) as part of Plus.

Saying that, a second hand PS3 can be had for very little money these days, and the vast majority of the back catalogue can be had for pennies. If you want to play the latest and greatest, get a PS4. If you don't mind playing games that have since left the collective zeitgeist, then get a PS3. Keep in mind that PS4 is getting some of the better PS3 games in Remastered form, and it may just be the best place to play them.
