I want to buy a PS3,I can get one for about 430 bucks with my company discount.

But Im thinking I should wait for the new model I've heard about.
Do you giys know if the current systems are having the overheating troubles like they did at launch etc...

Basically do you guys think think they are worth buying at the moment or should I wait for the next model generation?

First I want to address this claim of overheating issues...I have a launch console and have yet to hear any stories of overheating issues.

Buying a current PS3 would benefit you as it is cheaper, and Is more backwards compatible, it has a PS2 "built in" essentially and can play more of the older PS1 and PS2 titles.

I would suggest buying a PS3 now.

The ps3 has never had overheating problems. As for a new model are you talking about the 80 gig? Its actually an inferior model if BC is important to you. It doesn't include the EE chipset for 98% BC.

The only overheating problem I heard of is when some guy who post here said is friend put Black duck tape over the ventilation holes so dust would get in his PS3.

The main overheating problems I heard of were at last year's TGS, but that was because they enclosed the units in plexiglass demo cases and there was no A/C at the event. Since launch I've only heard of three overheating, and every case was due to user stupidity.

Mine blows warm air. My HDTV gets much hotter, though.

The only ones that would overheat were the ones that were inclosed in a demo case where there was no way of allownig the hot air out. But then from what I understand it still didn't break the system once it was allowed to cool down and had room to breath they still worked and may still be working.

If you like some of the PS1 or PS2 games you will want the 60 gig version with the EE chip. The PS3 does a great job of upscaling these games as well as SD DVD's (am sure that the emulator would do a good job on the DVD's though).

I have never heard of anybody complain that the launch units overheated. Now don't get me wrong, the PS3 does blow out ALOT of heat. But that is what it's suppose to do. it's suppose to decipate(sp?) the heat rather than keep it inside the console.

My PS3 runs whisper quiet all the time. The only time I have heard the fan kick into high gear is when my A/C messed up and it was like 80 degrees in my room. other than that, my PS3's fan stays on it's lowest setting(meaning it isn't getting hot enough).

I suppose it depends on how much downloading you plan to do. If you think you'll be heavy into downloadable content, wait for the 80 GB model. Otherwise, get the 60 GB now, get some free Blu-ray movies if you can, and have the option of better backwards compatibility. I have the 60 GB model and I think the hard drive is probably more than I'll ever need, plus I like the idea of not necessarily having to pull out my PS2 to for all the games that are in my stack of 'to be played.'

Overheating? Wtf? Never heard of overheating consoles. It was probably 360 fanboys just spreading rumors or something. Anyway now would be a good time to get one. its cheao now and there are some good games that will keep you busy for a while like Reistance, Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden. Once you are done with those game a bunch of new release are sure to be out such as Lair, Warhawk, and Heavenly Sword. The game drought is over people. The time for ps3 is NOW!!!

I'd get it now, I don't think you are going to see another substantial price drop for awhile. You might as well enjoy it. I bought mine last Christmas for $599 and it's easily been worth the $100 more I paid for it for all the extra time I've had to enjoy it. As far as the Harddrive space it's easy and cheap to upgrade later since they use standard hardware, not proprietary accessories. Also the overheating is false, I think you are thinking of Microsoft console.

edit: Also if you get one now you can still take advantage of the 5 free blu-rays offer thru September.

I would go with the 60 gb if I were you, your losing out on hardware with the 80, and you can put in the extra gigs yourself later.

i have hear no horror stories of overheating

dont bother with getting the 80gig

you can get the 60gig and a game and upgrade your HDD to probably 120GB for a few bucks more then the $100 extra for 20gigs more with the 80GB

get the 60gig for that reason and the fact that it will still have the EE chipset

You can buy one now (If you can find one. They are mostly sold out here in Ohio) and upgrade the HD.

You must be thinking of the 360's launch. The xbox360 had overheating issues very badly the first three months of launch. Actually the problem still presist til today with the 360's. The PS3 has never had any problems at all.

I have an overheating issue.... There is nothing above or on the sides of my PS3 to block air circulation. Yet when playing Rainbow6 online for a while the PS3 will click (or somthing) and restart at the main screen. I just lost all my points to building my character....

Happened about 3 times already. Bought my Ps3 10 days ago 60gb model.

This doesnt happen if I place a fan pointed directly at the PS3.

Up to you. If it's cheaper, and has the EE, then it's worth getting it sooner rather than later.

I just use my PS2 for all the older games, though.

Never had any overheating issues in the one week I've owned my PS3, the vents blow out warm/hotair at about 30-50 degrees centigrade.

I would say you have a defective PS3 then, I play R6V online all the time and have never had that problem.
