A friend at work is selling his BWC 60GB PS3. He's used it for about 2 years. Is it a safe buy? Any comments would be appreaciated. BTW, I dont own a PS3.

I'd say thats a good deal especially if a friend is selling it to you. I know I recently bought the 80 gig Metal Gear Solid 4 bundled Ps3 with 4 ports and the memory stick/card slots and BC(80%) and I own over 50 ps2 and everyone of them have played. I got it on Amazon for 530 and there were still a few on there but for 550 and up. I'd go with getting it from your friend....prolly would end up saving you a nice chunk of change as well....
No need to correct spelling im sure he knew what you ment. Mispell on purpose "jsut" to give people with OCD something to do.Games* Thats supposed to be Games lol

Just ask yourself, "Do I really need to play PS2 games all the time?" If it's not a necessity then i suggest you just go out and buy a slim, and to play PS2 games use your PS2 (i assume you have one) with a component cable so it looks good on a HDTV.A friend at work is selling his BWC 60GB PS3. If you would like to experience the YLOD eventually go for it. I personally would never buy a pre-slim console.A friend at work is selling his BWC 60GB PS3. He's used it for about 2 years. Is it a safe buy? Any comments would be appreaciated. BTW, I dont own a PS3.

Thanks for the replies. Well my friend is selling it for $200 minus a $50 gift card from Best Buy, that I got as a gift, that he'll gladly accept as part of the payment. I think thats pretty cheap for a BWC PS3 but I gues I'am a little worried about the YLOD...
keep it in a well-ventilated place. The price you pay for a fully functional ps3, is that those **** run damned hot. Also, consider setting aside some cash for a hard drive upgrade. I wouldn't spend the extra $$$ on an SSD either though, considering that the ps3 makes NO use of the extra performance it otherwise would have. a cheap, large capacity hard drive will be more than enough. About the only thing I would suggest to look for is to try to get one with a good, large buffer cache if you find one within your price range. Thanks for the replies. I got a 60GB used model two years ago (before the launch of MGS4) anyway, so far, mine is working really good, i have it in a ventilate place and i don't see much of a problem with get it a used one, maybe you should try it a couple of days to see if it is working properly and to see if the control is in good conditions, aside from that, and if you really want to play your old PS2 games i say go for it, in my case i never had a PS2 so it was kind of a huge deal for me but if you have a PS2, honestly i don't see a reason to get a 60GB PS3.

That's not just a deal but it's more like a steal. Even if it fails and you have to pay the price to have it repaired your still under what the 60 gig systems are selling for at most places. A local Play N Trade sold a 60 gig a few weeks ago for $400.00 used. Thanks for the replies. Cool, thanks people. I actually dont have any PS2 games but I just thought it would be nice to have the option just in case I wanna play some PS2 games that I missed. I just wanna play some PS3 games that I missed or that are coming up like GoW 3, FF XIII, MGS4, Drake 2, and Demon Souls....

Try a local web search for your area. These stores are all independently owned and the one close by has just about anything a gamer would want. Much better to deal with than any game store or even major retailers.[QUOTE="jimm895"]. A local Play N Trade sold a 60 gig a few weeks ago for $400.00 used.Dracula68
You can sell it for $600 on ebay if you decide you don't like it. The backwards compatability, card reader and 4 USB ports make it a collector's item. It's a solid buy for sure. However, on this forum there is a poll that shows over half of this model have broken down, so that should be a big consideration. Personally, I love playing the original MGS series in HD upscaled, so it's worth it to me, even though my 60GB failed once already. He told me not to quote him but they usually go for $120 to $200 depending on what condition it is in. I am guessing Ebay would be a better choice.
