Im realling considering purchasing the Linux install DVDs they have for $99.99 but I want some feedback first. Is it good and does it work well, does it work as good as a PC? and also, is there any LEGAL way to get it for free without having to buy it? Basically for those of you that have linux on your PS3, does it work well and do you like it, any info would be appreciated

Legal? Just google it and see...I thought all Linux was free?  Probably you can find someone who is willing to give you a free download of their own verison of Linux, but remember, Yellow Dog is suppose to be the best supported one.

There are a lot of different distrobutions of Linux. Linux is open source so it is actually free for anyone, and noone is allowed to sell Linux. But what companies do is take the source code and add a whole lot of their own stuff (which is totoally legal) and then sell what they produced.

There are plenty of distros out there for free, YDL, the one specifically created for the PS3 is free. Gentoo and Ununtu are also free and nice versions of Linux.

I believe if I remember correctly, you have to make an install disc for it on your PC then move it to your PS3.  Also, search for Yellow Dog Linux on the PS3 forums and I think there is some sort of install directions for it.

Man, DVD burners are like $30-$40USD, anyway just because you do not have a burner does not mean the OP doesn't have one.

there are video guides on youtube that take you through the whole process. Youtube seems to be down at the moment. but is you search for "fedora playstation" on youtube you will find what you are looking for.

you will need to download a dvd iso of linux witch you then burn to a dvd and then put it in your ps3 and install it. the guides will take you through the whole process. Dont buy linux. Use fedora for now and when yellow dog is made free in december replace fedora with it

You can get a cheap external hard drive for like $60 with like 60-100 gig's. Be a good way to go.

note that the ps3 has to be wired to get online through linux, I have my ps3 in my living room so this made me take off linux. but its reall worth it to use as a personal computer.
