Should i get a ps3 or a 46-inch lcd tv?

I have the money for both but my future wifey said i can only get one for now because were saving money for downpayment on a townhouse.

I currently have a have an old sony 10 year old 27-inch crt that has only composite inputs.  This thing is outdated.  I have a gamecube and dreamcast.

I'm leaning towards the tv since it has more uses but wonder what other people think.

Get the TV first. The PS3 is lacking games and you can defiantly wait. And when you DO get your PS3, you'll be able to play it on a 46" LCD HDTV right away. :D

Lol, maybe i would have put the smack down in the past, but after going out for 7 years it seems she is now making most of the decisions in the relationship.

The problem i have with the 40-inch is i want to go as big as possible with the tv.  I actually wanted to get a 61-inch rear projection but again, she only will let me buy a flat panel, sheesh.

Got with the TV. It is the more expensive item, and you can save for the Ps3 later.

I own a ps3 and hdtv....get the TV first. You won't enjoy the best thing about the ps3 on your old tv (the graphics). You can use the Tv for more things anyways. I bought my 56" LCD before I bought the PS3

Yeah get the tv first.  I had ps3 first. Though it was great on the standard it, i still didnt apperciate the ps3, but now i have a hdtv and i love my ps3. Resistance clan anyone?  If i was u though and i made all the money i would get both.  Im married and im glad i have both.  I made the decision before we married.  I owed it to myself.  I worked hard for my money.  I paid for wedding and im the only one working. So i did what i had to do.

I got my PS3 first, then she wanted to start watching movies in Blu-ray and said go ahead and go for the TV.

I'd go with PS3 first for another reason, HDTVs prices are dropping like rocks. In a few months you'll be able to get a lot nicer TV for a lot less money. Secondly she'll want a new TV for the house once you get moved in, so you can work that angle too :) lol

Hmm, i think i have a good plan.

I go buy a ps3, then after i get the ps3, my current crappy tv will mysteriously begin to malfunction.  Of course we will need to buy a new lcd tv since our current tv is dead :P

That's a good deal. That tv is awesome. My friend has the 37" one and it's beautiful. 4ms response time, 1080P, 2 HDMI, and Sharp makes great quality LCD tvs. A free $600 PS3 is a good deal. Sharp TV are way better than Toshiba. Samsung and Sony make good LCD though.

I'm jealous, you should definately go for that deal! And if your wife asks tell her it came free the TV and you didn't buy it =)

There is not a sharp model out there that does not have banding.  Who can live with that?

Why not get a 50" DLP w/ full 1080p?

I need help too, I wanna get a new LCD TV, I can't afford a 1080p so I want a 720p and this is what I found I could afford.

If you can wait LCD prices are dropping fast you can probably get a 1080p in a few months for the same price. What I would do is save up for what you want. A TV is something you will probably keep for 10+ years. Get something good quality with all the features you want. 10 years from now you won't be thinking I spent $100 extra for the Sony or whatever you'll just be happy you have a nice TV that has stood the test of time.  Otherwise you'll just regret it and probably end up spending more later to upgrade.

Polaroid makes AWFUL LCDs.  If you have to be THAT cheap, go for a CRT.   CC has the Sony XBR for $650
