I'm going to have about $2500 saved this October and I'm trying to decide whether I should get a gaming PC or Ps3 + Ps4.

The only thing that's really holding me back from getting a gaming PC instead in the playstation exclusives , and the possibility that I'll have to spend a lot of money frequently upgrading my PC instead of buying a console 1 time for around 5 years lifespan I guess. How many times would you have to upgrade your gaming rig in an average console lifespan of 5 years or so?

I am an rpg , jrpg, and japan related stuff fan , so some playstation exclusives are geared towards that catagory too (although I have my ps2 for the golden era rpgs still).

It seems like you can play a lot of current Ps4 games on PC, the only real exclusives for Ps4 that interest me haven't come out yet (if they even are exlusives can't remember: FFXV, FF7 Remake) (Uncharted games)

I do have a 2012 macbook pro , but I definitely don't use it for gaming, mainly for web stuff, watching anime, and reading manga..

I've tried looking for an answer in some other places online but I get a lot of troll responses.

I'm typically a PS gamer, but I would suggest you buy a PC given the money you have. PS exclusives aren't THAT many and THAT impressive (with exceptions definitely) and PC is a gaming powerhouse compared to consoles. Also, if you build a PC to run current games better than consoles, it will run future games better than consoles until the next console generation; so don't worry about "how long" your PC would remain relevant when comparing to consoles (comparing to "future PCs" is a different matter).

But, here's what I would suggest exactly to get the best of worlds (since I like to get myself some couch gaming instead of sitting on a PC desk all day long):

** With the extra-money remaining from the $2500 after buying a PC, refurbish your TV area so that you can fit the PC under some desk or something and connect it to your TV for couch games (such as racing games for instance, or the infamous Rocket League).

** Buy yourself one or two PS4 controllers and a compatible bluetooth dongle and google the tutorials on how to run PS4 controllers on PC (I tried it before, it was a 15 minutes setup; I used a wired setup though since I was doing it just out of curiosity).

** If your video card supports mirroring two outputs, connect a monitor to wherever you want to have your "PC desk" with a monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse (you'll use that desk for "serious" gaming, such as DotA or whatever you enjoy playing, on a low-latency monitor - as compared to TVs). If your video card doesn't support two outputs, get one of those VGA mirroring adapters. You can also get pretty creative with your monitor setup if you want (multiple monitors and what not).

** EXTRA STEP: download and spend a few hours configuring Kodi. Kodi is a media center similar to Plex, but on Kodi you have more control and can download an add-on to include a gaming folder where you can have all your games in one place with their full correct games, background and thumbnails (imagine, your own local "Netflix for Gaming"). That add-on and the inclusion of a PS4 controller also work great with retro games/emulators (although I'm not sure of the legality of the issue, it depends on game-per-game and console-per-console basis). This extra step makes your setup more convenient and turn your PC into not only a gaming-center but to a media center for whichever Movies or Series you may own (Kodi even has add-ons for youtube and Netflix). I'm not sure if you can control the Kodi interface with the PS4 controller itself (I usually use my wireless keyboard).

With what I suggested, you should get yourself a powerful gaming PC which works as a gaming PC, kind-of-console and a media center.

Let me know what you think,
~ Deut

I'd get a gaming PC, mine runs games really smooth all the way on ultra and it was only around 1k+. As for the ps3 or ps4 that's up to you, I personally like the older ps3's backwards compatibility. I have an 80g backwards compatible PS3 I just absolutely love, I just never was interested in the PS4.

pc gets all the multi platform games that consoles get and a whole bunch of junk such as mmo's, early access and steam greenlight games. you don't sound like the type who would enjoy that stuff. there are too many exclusives to count on sony platforms... that is what makes console gaming special. don't miss out on such games as bloodborne, uncharted, persona 5, star ocean, dragon quest heroes, dragon quest xi, dissidia final fantasy sequel, final fantasy xv, journey, beyond:two souls, heavy rain, ni no kuni, catherine, bayonetta, god of war, ratchet and clank, killzone, puppeteer, rain, the last of us, little big planet, tearaway, horizon, gran turismo (and many more), not to mention tons of hd collections from the ps2 era such as zone of the enders, jak and daxter, final fantasy x/x2, sly cooper, etc and the ps1 classics (some of the best jrpg's of all time are on ps1). for someone who is a jrpg fan, your decision is a no brainer. listen to your heart.

I do not really take part in discussions on these forums but this time i will make an exception.

I built my PC in 2011. We have 2015 and only thing i upgraded this year is new graphic card. So if You buy high end stuff i believe You could go hard for 4-5 years without upgrade, and then just do the partial one and still be good.

Gaming PC is a no brainer in my opinion. You get access to tons of great games, most of them run in 60+ fps and great steam summer/winter sales where You can grab many games for a cheap price. But stable 60 fps and FREE ONLINE is a game changer for me. On steam there are more and more jrpgs popping out and PS4 is really weak in that regard. Era of console gaming (for stationary consoles) is slowly changing and You do not see so many japanese games and jrpg's as in the past. The best choice would be prolly getting PC for current games + all indies and rpg's + some strategy games and PS3 to catch up on some good jrpgs and Atlus games (Catherine).

Also if You love jrpg's i would advise to check Playstation vita or nintendo ds/3ds, there are TONS of great rpg games that are must have.

I got my PS4 on a release date and i really regret it, there are not too many games, performance is total crap (most games have trouble keeping up stable 30 fps) and there just not too many games around. I was always the "console guy" but decided to sell ps4 after i got annoyed with it to upgrade my GPU, Next step was gaming monitor with IPS, 144hz, G-sync and 1440p which BLEW MY HEAD OFF. Monitor is pricy (1000$) but dammit, after getting that baby i felt like the first time i got my NES console and discovered gaming once again.

Also You can play ps1 and ps2 jrpg's on a PC thanks to emulation, in 1080p/1440p and 60 fps if You want.

Get a gaming PC. Most PS3 exclusives are accessible on PC plus you will overall have way more games to play than a mere PS3 + PS4 combo, plus they will look and perform better, plus freedom, plus lots of great things.

Tough tough call. Probably a gaming PC to be honest. It's cheaper to upgrade to a new generation of games with a PC than a console. And for the most part there are hundreds more games on PC. If you have ANY interest in RTS or sim or puzzle type games than you only have PC as an option. And of course all games will run better on PC though usually not at launch.

Id say a PC now and then buy a console next generation.

PS3 and PS4 combo. Sony and their third parties over the years have released a ton of RPG games. PS3 games are cheap to buy. PS4 has the best game library over the "other 2". If RPG games are your favorite PlayStation has had you covered. Dec 04 1994,- November 11 28 and continuing...

A Gaming computer could be nice, but PlayStation combo of Gen 3 and 4. Is "better"

Just keep flagging the posts, that's the only solution.

Well, 2500$ is a very very good amount for an awesome PC config. So you'll be able to run pretty much all games released on planet Earth on the highest settings with highest fps (if the game itself wouldn't be buggy and poorly optimised of course) :)

Also, you'll be able play all shooters with mouse (!) having tack sharp aiming precision and tons of customisable graphics features. Not a very big fan of PS4 store either.

Alternatively, buy PS4 and PC but with a bit lower config. Pretty sure you will still be able to assemble quite mighty config with that amount ;)
