If you have 4 friends to play it with yes, if you plan on playing it yourself just forget about it. MW2 isn't that great either(yes smite me I said it).

I have to go with Borderlands, no matter your genre preferences. Borderlands is classified as an RPS(role-playing shooter). Basically, it plays like an FPS with a huge open world. You gain experience and level up from killing enemies and completing quests and loot weapon from your fallen foes. It also has amazing 4-player co-op and four unique characters each with their own abilities and weapon preferences. And the game will last you a long time.

If you played Diablo II and enjoyed it, I'd give Borderlands a try. It's kind of a grindfest, but it's fun if you're into that kind of thing. Basically you pick up a quest, kill whatever the quest tells you to, pick up loot, repeat.

MW2 isn't any different than you're standard FPS, no real surprises there.

I enjoy Borderlands more because I'm pretty terrible at MW2, but that's just me.

I liked the layout of the missions, very different all the time, the different characters have real different gameplay, and lots of fun

if you like fast-paced action and competitive multiplayer experience, borderlands isn't the best choice for you, however if you like playing co-op with your friends, character progression, rpg elements and a huge open world with dozens of selectable side-missions whipped with an fps mixture, borderlands is a pretty darn good choice... :)
