Found a deal for it for 26 dollars, and I have a 25 dollar video credit card on Amazon so I will only pay 1 dollar for the game. However, the reception with the fans have been bad, however, I am a newcomer to the FF series and I don't know what to get. If don't get it, what other $35- game should I get.

The story isn't as strong as you would hope for in a FF game, but it's still a fun game to play nonetheless with gorgeous graphics. But since you're a newcomer to the series, you probably won't be disappointed in the story area. It is a time investment though, as it takes over 40 hours to play through, most likely more. Are you a RPG fan in general?

are you a newcomer? then you will like it probably, as long as you can stand the cheesy Japanese anime cliches.

in my opinion, definitely. although not the best FF i have played, it was nonetheless a great game. it's getting alot of negative press because of the new approach Square Enix took with the game, one which emphasizes streamlined gameplay, accessibility and action-oriented control, without taking away too many of the core elements that define the Final Fantasy experience. but of course, haters, as always, refuse to acknowledge its merits and write it off as a bad game. you will get that ALOT in this thread, but allow me to tell you right now that while FF13 is not flawless, it is unquestionably a fine piece of entertainment, especially if you're new to the series. :)

Eh the last RPG game I played was... The World Ends With You, which was an Action RPG? I think. Plus, All i had was a Wii, so all i got was Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. I didn't pay attention to hardly any other games. So, Im a fan, but I hardly play em. I will probably get it though, because I have nothing else to play cause I beat UC2, and the multiplayer really doesn't interest me.

Well if you're an action RPG fan, I would suggest going with the Bioshock series or Fallout 3. They are both FPS, but they also have the RPG element to them that can suck you in. Neither of the games are terribly long, though Fallout 3 has more stuff to do if you desire. Plus since they all have been out for awhile, they will be fairly cheap.

Mmm, buy a couple of used PS1 games from Amazon.

FF13 is not precisely good.

If your a newcomer you might like it, most of the hate is from fans of the series with very high expectations.

But I recommand trying thePS1 games (FF7, FF8, FF9)on PSN store and FF10 and FF12 on PS2. If you want to see what the older FF game were like.

I had no expectations whatsoever with this game, and still got dissapointed.

And i agree, find someone to exchange those 25$ and with the money just buy a PSN card and go for FF7 & 9 on the store.

If you're going to start playing any Final Fantasy game, it would be wise to avoid one of the worst in the series. There are many other FF games that are far superior to 13. FF6 is my personal favorite and always will be. FF4 and 5 were great. You can actually buy the PS1 versions of these games and they will run on your PS3, any version of PS3 too. FF anthology and chronicles are excellent entry points into the series.

I've been a fan of the series since FF III and I was pretty dissapointed with this game. Its not just the story though, there are times when the battles are incredibly easy to down right frustrating. Some of the hard battles are literally based on luck since they have the potential to one hit kill one of your characters and if the main one goes down, game over. I was patient enough to finish the game but kinda wished I had bought something else.

I was new to the series and had no expectations knew nothing about the game. I knew this was an rpg and with the special battles thing but I was hoping for a game more like fallout in which there was a more complete world where I could roam and go to stores and cities. Everything I found was a bad story and a path to follow and fight with monsters I hated it and didnt even finish it

It may turn out to be a good deal for 25 bucks. 60+ hours of gameplay ain't bad (although 30 hours of that might be cutscene). On the other hand, you can just easily pop it into your system for 2 hours, stop playing it, and then never play it again.

i don't think FF13 has that much cutscene. There are frequent cutscenes, but most of them are pretty short.

Horrible dialogue, cruddy story, very linear, easy as hell, cut scenes every 2-3 minutes, timed battles determining xp/items, weak characters, did I mention horrible dialogue?

Well, that's FFXIII IMO.

i bought it for the name. and if you expect a good rpg, you will be disappointed. the story is quite weak and does not suck you in at all... post-game is boring as hell and well.. there is nothing to explore while doing the story. its just too linear.. its like you go a straight line untill the boss arrives lol..

Sure, 60hrs of gameplay is fine, but 60hrs of boring gameplay? I'd rather play with dolls.
