I haven't played any of the MGS games. Well, actually, I've played MGS 2, I believe. But I don't remember anything about the story. And as for Heavy Rain, some dousche spoiled it for me by telling me who the origami killer was. So basicallly, I know what happens in the end. Would it still be worth getting?

Hey, how's your PS3? :p Anyway, I really enjoyed both games but since I think a major aspect of HR is the storyline, I'd suggest you pick MGS4 up. I'm not saying that once you know who the killer is, HR becomes worthless though. I think HR is among the few games I've played more than once. If you haven't watched many gameplay videos and you still don't know what the levels consist of, then you may still consider HR.

Yeah get Heavy Rain. It's like no other game & needs to be experienced.

MGS4 is really good but I could definitely see where it wouldnt be as enjoyable had I not played the first 2 games. MGS1 is available for download on PSN for pretty cheap and i'm sure you could replay MGS2 if you still have it or pick up a used copy on the cheap. MGS3 is actually more of a prequel and doesnt really add much to the storyline from MGS1 to MGS4.

I've only played the demo for Heavy Rain and found the controls to be a bit confusing, but very interesting gameplay. If you dont want to invest the time into playing the older MGS games then maybe get Heavy Rain?

MGS4 is story-dependent almost to the point of sillyness; you will almost certainly be totally lost for the vast majority of the game if you have not played ALL of the previous games. That said, MGS4 is also an incredible game when you actually get to play it instead of watching 30 min. cutscenes. As far as Heavy Rain, I wasn't a huge fan. I found the story interesting, but for perhaps the first time ever I found that the game itself (i.e. contextual actions, slow-speed of gameplay) actually got in the way of what was otherwise a fantastic experience. If Heavy Rain were a movie or a book, it would have been epic. As a game, though, I came a away a little disappointed. Still, I know others who absolutely adored the experience and it truly is something entirely different from anything else on the market right now. I know that isn't super helpful, but I guess all things considered I would tell you to pick up Heavy Rain if you could only buy one. Fortunately, both are ludicrously cheap used at this stage, so there's really no reason you can't try both. Enjoy.

Oh, I see. Then I'll get Heavy Rain then. Thanks :) But why is MGS better if I played the previous ones?? I've played a series where I just went straight to the newest game, and I still enjoyed it very much.

To fully understand the story for MGS4, you need to play the previous ones first. I'd vote Heavy Rain for you because you havent played the other MGS.

They're both basically interactive movies, but you'll get more gameplay with Heavy Rain. HR also has the more intelligent, less rediculous-to-the-point-of-insult story.

I vote Heavy Rain especially if you have Move. I love both games though... Heavy Rain is more unique.

Im more of a heavy rain guy,,,,,just a very innovative and well put together game and incredible story.....I got Metal gear on launch and didi not make it past the second misson....just feels weird to be the movements and set up.....But if I grew up with metal gear which I did on the nes but stopped there,,,Metal gear is for people who appreciate the games longevity and seems like you had to play it at the right time and age to really appriciate it and move on.......I got a ps2 metal gear just for the hype...I believe it was ,,i dont remember the title,,,,but it was cool,,,cool cut scenec,,,still a werid camera angle,,,,but I went through it just to go through it......no real immersion for me........Looking back i would say its a very impressive game for its time.....when someone said trophys for the ps3....everyone was like wtf is a trophy, a ps home addition???

If you are going to play through MGS4, and don't plan on playing the first 3 I'd at least suggest looking up a playthrough on youtube or at least the cutscenes of the previous games. Will take several hours though and playing the actual games would be alot better.

I think both are must haves. MGS4 may have 10 hours of cutscene, but also has 10 hours of gameplay, with some of the most glorious and epic gameplay moments of any game.

You really can't go wrong with either game, both NEED to be experienced.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is based on it's deep intriguing story (it may be quite overwhelming to anybody who is new to the series)

Heavy Rain should really be played no matter what, even if you know what happens in the ending who really cares? You can finish with heaps of different endings too, so it doesn't really matter.

But if you can only pick one i think you should probably go with Heavy Rain in the end. (you may not like MGS4, or understand what is happening)

In the future, please ask questions like this in the recommendation thread.
